What size screens are on the i drive systems? are they all one size or vary between specs / models on the E9X range?

There are 2 sizes of Idrive display:

Large = Old DVD Pro Nav and the new HDD Pro Nav. The new screen is higher resolution, but they are both the same size.

Small = New Business Nav (old business nav did not have idrive)

whats better the small business nav or larger pro nav as in functions?

can only the screen be changed to a larger one on the business nav?

I've used all three. From what I could see the current business nav is very similar to the old DVD based pro nav. The small screen made it look a bit 'mean', but the functionality was about the same.

I'm sure it's possible to upgrade. There are people selling the idrive components on ebay.
