Thumbs up How low can I go on the offer? 2007 335i coupe CPO

Hi all, I have my eye on this 2007 E92 335i coupe/ AT/space grey with CPO the dealer is selling with about 35k miles, they're asking $32,000. It's fully loaded with sport/premium pkg, and NAVI. I'm planning to throw them an offer tomorrow at the dealership, I haven't had much experience negotiating with the dealer since my previous cars are purchased from private sellers. What should I expect, I definately want to get the lowest/best price I can for the car. Should I start way low.. I'm thinking $27,000, what's a reasonable or realistic OTD price I can get for that car? Should I bother using OTD (out the door, including all misc fees + tax) offers when negotiating? I want to be prepared... my bottom line is not to spend over $29k if possible , but I'm not in a rush to get a car since I do have a beater to drive now. Thanks for any pointers!

Negotiate the price of the CAR first, not the OTD price, or price minus your trade-in, or monthly payment, etc.

The Galves trade-in (wholesale) value of a 2007 E92 335i with Steptronic, Sport Package, Leather Trim, iDrive/navigation, and 35k miles is:

$24,375
+ $1,500 (estimate) to recondition the vehicle.
+ $2,000 (estimate) for the 6yr/100k mile BMW CPO warranty.
+ dealer overhead.
+ dealer profit.
= $ ________

I think you're wise to make an initial offer of $27,000 and work up from there. If you're patient and firm, you MAY be able to get it for around $29k (+ tax & fees) near the end of the month. If the dealer won't budge on price, then look somewhere else. It may take a few weeks or months to find the car you want at the right price, but you'll find it eventually.

IMO, A fair price for the CPO car you're looking at is between $29,500 to $30,500 at a BMW dealership. This price range is BEFORE subtracting any BMW incentives (if applicable) and is also assuming the car has a clean title.

If you really want a 2007 E92 335i for under $29,000 OTD, then you'll have to start looking for one with 6MT, no iDrive/navigation, and higher mileage.

Good luck!

thanks for the reply, it gives me a better insight as to what to shoot for. I'm not trading in, but most likely will finance it. Will it really be a disadvantage to go in this week as oppose to the end of the month?

Timing your car purchase is the key to getting a better deal.

Buying near the end of the month is always good, but buying near the end of the quarter is even better. June 30th happens to be the end of the month AND quarter.

Those car dealers and salesman who make their monthly/quarterly quotas get their bonuses, and this is their incentive to make better deals (especially if they’re close to meeting their sales numbers). Make sure the salesman knows that you’re willing to buy before the end of the month – but only if you’re able to negotiate a fair deal.

You also want to find a couple of similar cars at different dealerships so you can play the dealers off against each other. It will probably take a couple of weeks to do a thorough car search anyway, so you can wait until the week of June 20th before making any offers...

I went back to the dealership to test drive the car and drop my 30k OTD offer, they won't budge. They want 36k OTD for it. I was laughing my a$$ off in my mind, to think which idiot will pay that amount. Long story short, I walked away. Then he goes to giving me BS that offer will be good for a used 07 328i e92 coupe. I asked him about the 07 oil cooler and if that car has been retrofitted with it... he was clueless regarding that issue. Anyways... my search continues...

They probably won't back off on the price this early in the month. Why should they? If they have a few sales leads (walk-in, internet, etc.), then they'll wait and see who makes the highest offer. When they realize you're not just another "tire kicker", they'll be more willing to deal near the end of the month (if they NEED to make a few more sales). In the meantime, start looking elsewhere and STAY FIRM!

Don't get attached to it, if no one buys it at their price they will lower it but keep looking, there are deals out there if you can find them.
