Official: US Spec 335d/X5 35d Performance Mods
While this isn't quite the performance mod crowd, I figured it'd still be nice to have a collection of the information. With the 335d/X5 35d still pretty new to the states (just over a year now, with 3 MY's), I expect this list will be short still for a while, but I'm hoping that other people know some things I don't and we can add to this list. If there are other categories I should include, please don't hesitate to tell me. You'll notice the only thing I have listed is tunes, because frankly, I'm unsure of any other performance mods for the car. So, if you know of any others, please, feel free to chime in.

335d is on my short list of cars I'm considering to replace my 135i...
Seems like JBD would be the way to go for a tune, but I haven't seen much about aftermarket exhausts in the US. Does the urea injection present a big obstacle for designing an exhaust system? Is an aftermarket exhaust on a 335d guaranteed to sound like a cement truck?

There's been no confirmation as to whether or not this works with the US Spec car.

Potentially 2 new vendors to add for the tunes (I'm confirming with ESS if their tune works for US spec cars), and I was approached by another company that wants to use my car as a guinea pig for their tune, as well (this is a flash tune, not a piggyback or 'interceptor').

There are going to definitely be more vendors to add for a few different items here. I've been talking to tuner vendors and some pretty well known names in this realm, and there could be some movement forward very soon. Good news for us diesel fans.
Everything listed in this thread is intended to be for US consumption. Our EU brethren already have a brothel full of options.

Someone should try out an intercooler intended for a 335i. There's a fair chance that it would work.

The Urea bit is definitely a challenge, but I'm told that circumventing the 'no start if the tank is empty' bit isn't/shouldn't be all that difficult. If that's the case, then removing it (at least the tank) would provide some much needed space in the rear, and allow for some serious exhaust modding, which would provide more power for the car. I'm working with the vendors to see if we can give an existing FMIC a go.

True, but I'll wait for the 6MT option if it ever becomes available. |

My guess is that none of you have ever drive a car with that much torque on a daily basis, and that you have NO idea how much of a pita it would be to do so, especially with the rev range.

If it doesn't have 3 pedals it's off the book for me, period. Infuriate away, but some people just can't deal with slushboxes, no matter how smoothly they shift and how many damn paddles and buttons they come with: it will always be boring. -Walter PS= thanks for putting this list together, I like keeping up with development on this platform for when it's offered with the right transmission.

To each his own, but I find 6spd purists on this board a funny lots being that a majority couldn't rev-match, or heal-to to save their life. |
