Financially, is a bad decision..

But i have always told my friend, in the moment of doubt, do all you can and whatever you want to keep your life going.

I respect him and hope he gets back on his feet soon.

Great story. Stupid girl didn't know what she had. Was probably in it for fun and money, nothing more.

Hope the kid does well with his new business.

Sounds more like somebody who suffers from depression. And a not too intelligent person, either.

Sorry, but it doesn't take balls to go into debt and drive a car aimlessly around the US. Why not climb Mt Everest or sail the world solo, etc.? Or join the Peace Corps? He needs a creative outlet of some kind.

No it's to live your life on your terms and do what you enjoy. If you can make it work then why the hell not. Why conform to society's maxims.

Why is

1) Get a good education, land a good paying job (250k) a year, buy a lambo to drive only on the weekends

better than

2) Have some skills to pay the bills, buy a lambo to drive anywhere you want, and eat and live cheaply and start over again?

when 2) makes you happier? One reason is most people are risk adverse: 1) is safer bet than 2).

What makes you think it made him "happy?" Sorry, but I can think of a thousand more creative ways to have adventures than to drive around in a 'Lambo' while going broke and destroying the car. That sounds more like somebody who was simply depressed and confused over being dumped by a girl. And then turned it into a "story."

I'm far from being risk adverse. But I'm ten times more intelligent then to do something as benign and as boring as he did. I hitchhiked across Turkey for 6 months when I was 19. And that was one of the more innocuous 'adventures' I've attempted.

You can live outside the box and not "conform to society's maxims" (as you say), but just do it with some gusto and panache. Be creative about it.
