Need help with Rear Window Tint Question

I have a 2011 335i coupe that replaced my 2007 335i coupe. On the 2007 when I had the windows tinted they did the rear window over the top grid. It looked OK but always cloudy and unclear. The tinter tells me most people tint the rear window only up to that grid, not over it. Any body care to comment which will look, better??

Which grid are you talking about? Are you referring to the "black frit" - the little black dots surrounding the edge of the glass or the defroster/antenna grid - the copper colored wires?

I am talking about the Dot Matrix that starts at the top of the rear window and goes down about 6 inches

Two primary alternatives

1. tint the entire window and squeegee out the water. Lift the film covering the frit and put in a bead of Elmers glue. Carefully squeegee out the glue.

2. Tint up to the frit and use flat black paint to paint the frit.

depending on how dark you go, I would tint up to the upper grid. I tinted min all the way past the grid and if you can some-what see that it looks like it is starting to peel.

I had my coupe tinted up to the dot matrix. The tint shop swore that tinting over the matrix wont last long. On looking at other BMWs it seems like a correct statement. It took awhile to get used to though. Most dealers seem to go all the way up the window

Like someone said, the best way to get rid of it is with glue+tint.

It will look weird if the tint doesn't cover the whole window. Pay a little extra to have an experienced shop do it.

Had mine done, pretty upset with the result. Tint guy used Elmer's glue on the matrix and it is very splotchy and obvious. Did not dry very clear. =(

I heard of someone putting a strip of vinyl over it and tinting up to it. I am looking for alternatives to have it redone better.
