Why all the hate?

The more i read and the more pics i look at on this forum, the more i realize EVERYONE wants to ditch the ambers on pre-LCI e90's... why is it?

Am i really the only person here that likes them? Maybe i'd feel differently if i didn't have a black car, but i really dig the contrast, ambers provide a nice bit of colour without being too overwhelming and offer enough to keep the car from becoming 'boring' (for lack of a better term)

thoughts? reasoning?

Mine are still amber. I think all the modifications to make them clear look getto.

The amber front sidemarker lights are a Federal requirement. People ditch them to look more "Euro."

I think they look fine.

Oddly enough, the guys in Europe are clamoring for bumpers with sidemarker lights - and having them there is mostly illegal.

I love the amber things on cars. I love the amber reflectors on my front bumper and I love the amber rear signals. Everyone else who doesn't is a troll and subsequently accident-prone

It's all just a matter of taste. I quite like the ambers with my stock setup, I think it provides a nice contrast in the headlights, otherwise it's just a bit too monotonous for me. If you have blackline tails installed, then clears are a must IMO. The ambers and the clears don't look good together.

i wasn't too fond of the ambers on my old E90, but i left them the way they were.

and now i kinda like the amber reflectors on my E92. And I really like amber turn signals, so no hate here.

I like the amber, but gives people one of the cheapest was to screw around with their car.

+1.To me, no frickin' big deal. Leave them....change them....whatever. All subjective in terms of cosmesis as mentioned earlier. I try to keep my car OEM as much as possible; hence, I'm fine with the ambers.

Now, when it comes to the side marker turn signals, I do prefer the clears. My first e46 330i had the amber ones, and I changed those out.

Coming from E92 owners

If I was keeping this car for a while, I would have searched for Euro xenons, as I feel they just look better. There is nothing wrong with the amber, I can live with it but if I had the option to switch them out then I would. I would not, however, take the route of placing overlays on them as I think that's just stupid.

Besides, you probably wouldn't have thought anything about this before you came on here

I really never thought about any of this before i came on here, i'd noticed that the LCI e90's had silver instead of amber and was curious as to why... but thats about it....

I appreciate all the feedback guys, i came from the VW community, and while i was kind of pleased to see a lot of similarities (in the readiness, to mod, the direction a lot of the cars were going, and the overall fun attitude), i'm even more pleased to find you all seem a lot less uptight. The VW guys always seemed to me like they had a rulebook they were reading and if you strayed in any aspect you'd get crucified.

I'll probably keep the ambers, i dig them and prefer a mostly OEM look anyway.

Thanks again guys

You're welcome. There is nothing wrong with the ambers, its all about perception. And you'll definitely see that there are no really STRICT rules here

I didn't really notice my ambers either. But after seeing pics of cars on this forum, I realized they look really bad in pictures. But in person.. it's ok.

I really did not like them. The new reflectors I probably wouldn't mind as much.

Amber corner sucks, that's why I rather have Euro halogens then USDM xenon conversions.

Haha, I remember the first time I ever heard about ambers and clears. Some guy on a RX8 forum posted before and after pics. Everyone was telling him it looked so much better, but took me forever to notice what was different. Now that I do see the difference, I think I actually prefer the amber color as a little highlight, but this is not something I'd spend any time or money on either way.
