2009 328i
Hi,
I am planning to get a 328i. I can't make a decision on the car. It is a 2009 328i, premium pkg, front and back parking assist sensors, xenon lamps, 60:40 foldable back seats. It never has been registered and the CA says it is a factory demo car. It has low miles. It is a pretty good deal compared to the features but the Factory demo is something which is stopping me. The CA said a factory demo car is one driven by a bmw executive. Can someone guide |

Loaners are more beaten up than demos. I would choose demos with less than 3000 miles. Since you have 4yr/50k warranty so you shouldnt worry too much. Just make sure you get enough discount (since you will be 2MY behind)

I recently purchased a 2009 328i coupe which was also labled as a factory demo. I was told that it was being driven by the finance manager. It only had 9K miles on it. I felt pretty good since it was CPO'd. I don't see any problem with it...especailly if you're getting a good deal on it. Is it CPO'd?
Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.... |

I'd avoid the loaners, but the "demo" cars are a pretty safe bet. Especially if it's CPO'd.

The reason it's not a CPO is because it was never titled. Since it never technically belonged to anyone else, the OP would be the first owner, therefore no CPO (you can't have a pre-owned vehicle that was never "owned" in the first place, right?).
My car was a factory demo as well. The "original" owner purchased it with 7K miles on the odo and I got it as a CPO after she turned it in (it was a lease). The important thing to consider is that the in-service date of the car (the date when the 4/50K start to count) is the day that the original driver took possession of it at the dealership. So, even though you're getting it in 2010, the in-service date is more than likely around May-July of 2009 (meaning you're out about a year on your free maintenance). Talk to the dealership and see if they'll throw in a CPO inspection and certify it for you. |

Factory demos are a mixed bag. There are a million where I live b/c the plant and they're either driven by soccer mommies at 10 under the limit or by someone doing 100 on the interstate. YMMV, but definately safer than a Loaner/ Dealer Demo/ CPO in my opinion. They're also maintained extremely well.
in SC, they're X5's, always with Sport Pack, usually without rear climate, either 3.0 or 4.8 (11's are just starting to come out) or a 328i ZSP or a 135i 'vert. Some minis, some X6's, less 335's, a few E60's and one or two 7ers. Now they're shifting to xDrive cars and more without sport. Probably for the people in NJ who have shitty roads and weather at resale
