Need help-which used 335i to buy
Hey all, I'm new here and I'm looking to get a 2007-2008 335i coupe. I was wondering if you all could give me some advice.
So far I only have 3 that I've found w/ everything I'm looking for (6sp, nav, htd seats, saddle or cream interior are must haves): 1. 2007 335i coupe 6mt from independent dealer: prem, sport, cwp, nav, pdc for $34998-18,000 miles 2. 2007 335i coupe 6mt CPO from BMW dealer: prem, sport, heated seats, nav for $34998-36,000 miles 3. 2007 335i coupe 6mt from independent dealer: prem, sport, cwp, nav, pdc for $31600-25,000 miles BUT has a minor accident on record, saw the pic-not bad, minor scratch. I guess the real question is would you rather buy a CPO car w/ higher miles or a non-CPO w/ lower miles? OR just wait for more to become available? I'm not really considering the accident one becuz the record just kills the resale value even tho its a minor scratch. Last edited by motorhead; 06-15-2010 at 12:05 PM.. |

I wouldn't worry about the scratch, any hit on resale has already occured.
How long do you plan on keeping the car for? If you only plan to stay within the CPO warranty limits I'd go for taht one, if you plan on keeping it "forever" I'd get the low mileage one. They all seem pretty comparable though, I'd probably go with whichever dealer you liked the best. |

A good rule of thumb is to simply use the amount BMW charges for over mileage on their leases. In that case:
(36,000 - 18,000) x 0.20 (per mile overage) = $3,600 In other words, all things being equal, there should be a $3,600 difference in price between the CPO and non-CPO vehicles. Once you factor in the option differences Non-CPO (PDC, CWP?) vs CPO (heated seats) that gap closes slightly to say $3,400. That all said, the non-CPO vehicle still has 1 year/32K miles left on the factory warranty. So that reduces the gap between the 2 even more. Based on all those factors (and the fact that a reasonable extended warranty could be purchased for around $3K once the factory warranty runs out, I'd go with the non-CPO vehicle with lesser miles. Otherwise, I'd use the figures on the non-CPO vehicle to negotiate a lower price on the CPO vehicle. At the current figures, the non-CPO vehicle is a better "value." |

thanks guys, yeh i planning on keeping the car as long as i can and i liked the lower mileage one. The thing i forgot to add is that the lower mileage one is in NY(800mi away) ...I was planning on hiring an inspection then fly out and drive it back which would be risky w/ the HPFP concerns. The CPO one is in Ohio

If I had to pick, I'd go with #2, the CPO.
I realize this is not very helpful, but I wouldn't consider, even for a minute paying $35K for a car that's 4 model years old with 36,000 miles. It's easy for me to spend your money but I bought my 335 last year with an msrp of $49,500 for just over $45,000. You could buy a new coupe w/sport and premium for less than that. I'd rather save a few more months or give up an option or two and buy new over and of those deals. That's not saying that buying used isn't a good option sometimes but unless those are highly-negotiable prices, they aren't even close to offering enough of a discount given how old they are. |

Yeh that's why I'm not really making any moves right now-seems kinda high for 2007's even tho they are negotiatable-maybe 31-32k at best. The problem is I want a specific set of options and color combinations. New would be the best solution but I can't afford a new one with the options I want. I'll see if any more 2008's come off lease and hopefully get lucky w/ the options.
