With the stage 3 tune, you need the larger oil cooler and intercooler to maintain warranty...save your money...

Got stage 2 and loved it. Numerous threads on this but I'm happy to answer questions here. Ignore the haters. There are more powerful tunes for less money, but not if warranty is a big issue for you.

Get the stage 2, but u'll need to have the factory oil cooler. I have it and it puts down 330hp/360tq at the wheels. I know it's not the "strongest" tune or the cheapest, but it's very good. The torque band is massive and the usability of it is fantastic.

For you, no, not worth it. But Dinan has been around forever so for many other, yes, worth it.

I installed Dinan Stage 2 in my car last year - my birthday present to myself. Best birthday present I ever bought myself. For most cars, it is a quick download of ECU software and an hour labour at the dealer, and you are on your way.
16% more hp, 29% more torque according to Dinan (30% and 40% if you believe BMW's 300 hp figure. Yet it is as smooth and driveable in traffic as the stock car. Maybe more so - throttle response is quicker. The torque, right from idle, is intoxicating. Especially when passing. At kept finding myself doing nearly 100 mph in third when I thought I was doing 60mph in second. Dinan does void your BMW engine warranty, but Dinan replaces it, making your warranty whole again. Many BMW dealers are also Dinan dealers. If anything goes wrong in the warranty period, the stealership fixes it and determines who to send the bill to. Here is a link to a Cdn TV review. Also read the press release from Dinan - lots of good technical info. http://www.drivingtelevision.tv/?cid=728 JB3 and others offer more power, less price, possible error codes, no warranty coverage. |

I think that something important many fail to consider is that Dinan is not just added power; they play around with a lot of other settings on the car to make the tune and the car run better together....

If you want to stay with a flash, GIAC is another route to consider. Although they dont have a warranty like Dinan they offer similiar gains for a lot less money than Dinan.

for some reason there is a lot of hostility towards Dinan from people who do not even have it. They complain about the price and tell those who have it that they are wasting their money. Why is there always a pissing contest about tunes? You have what you like and I dont piss on it,so why not give me the same courtesy? I am happy with Dinan. In my experiences with them they have gone above and beyond with their support and backing the warranty. I got Dinan for the security and it was a wise choice since i have had 6 injectors, wastgates and 2 turbos all replaced and did not have any problems getting the work done and Dinan was right on top of things and I had no hassle. I may not have the most powerful tune, but i am happy with it and i hope you are happy with your tune.
Great now that we cleared that up everyone hug the person to your right, now the person to your left, now lets join hands and all sing kumbaya, koombyaya, coombayah(or however the f#ck you spell it)Screw it, letsdo the hokey pokey instead, I can spell that

^^ Yes, unless you're planning on drag-racing with meth and nitrous, Dinan Stage 2 is excellent. It delivers the same power as other tunes that are safe for cars with stock intercooler and downpipes, it has no-worry, no-hassle warranty, it has ten times more smoothness for daily driving, and it doesn't turn you into a piggyback troll.
adding: well, maybe not ten times more smoothness, but it is smoother Last edited by GaryS; 06-22-2010 at 06:55 AM.. |
