Vented Hood Question

Hey guys...sort of a noob question here...but I was sitting around reading the engine tuning section and a lot of people are concerned about hot air being sucked into the engine after getting an aftermarket intake. I read a few people who recommended a vented hood. My question is...what happens when it rains?

You don't need a vented hood on a 328i, or even a 335i for that matter (even with performance mods). People do it for looks and nothing else despite what they may say.

i mean...it makes sense....with the vented hood...more hot air is able to escape...and my car's fan seems to kick on a lot...like my car becomes LOUD...in a bad way...like the fan is overworking it self...should i take it to dealer? or is this normal?

A vented hood will allow heat to escape which can help in track settings or on hot days to minimize heat soak. The Vorsteiner vented hood for the 135 was track tested to reduce ambient engine bay temps by 20 degrees Fahrenheit so there is functional benefit to the vents. However, on a street car, the main feature is for aesthetics.

hrm...cuz it gets up to over 115+ last summer in Davis, CA. I was thinking about getting either the injen intake or afe...cant really decide at the moment...but from the replies i got so far...it seems like a vented hood doesn't make a difference...i guess money saved = money used on other mods =)

It helps with venting the engine in hot conditions so it's worth it if you have an open ended intake.

If you are worried about heatsoak, I suggest the aFe intake because it actually has a heatshield without exposed filters.

On my 335 with the Vorsteiner Vented hood, I can feel the heat coming out of the vents, once on a cold night I saw the fog coming out, so I am sure it works, to what degree? I have no idea...
