Windows on 335i Coupe

Anyone know under what circumstances the coupe windows lower themselves half way when I open the doors. It seems to be inconsistent.

Good question - noticed this - but never got to the bottom of it! Looking forward to seeing posts from knowledgable BMW Owners :P

If you unlock both doors at the same time the windows will roll down.
If you unlock one door and pause say 10-15 seconds before unlocking the other, the windows will not roll down. This is what I have found.

press the unlock button once on your remote and the car will unlock ... open the door and the window will move down about 3mm to clear the window seal.

press the unlock button twice on your remote and the car will unlock ... open the door and the window will drop to the halfway point. when the door is closed it will raise back to the close point.

you can configure the window behaviour, but I think this is the default action. at least this is how my 335 behaves and always has

It is a setting in i-Drive. If you have the windows set to convenience then when you press the unlock button twise it will roll the window down about half way when you open the door

Yeah, like Drew said. If you press the unlock twice it does it. I have no idea what purpose this serves...

It makes it a lot easier to get in and out when parked next to another car.

thanks for the info, didn't realise it was a setting in i-Drive that could be changed that easily...

always wondered what purpose it served! never been an issue for me, but I rarely park that close to other cars. too paranoid about them opening the door into it to get that close

Do you know how to program the 3mm auto down and auto up (when you close the door so it doesn't hit the door trim). I have this prob right now... it wont do anything if I unlock once or twice... nothing.

Where is the setting in i-drive?

You mean so that you can then climb in through the window without opening the door ?

You're whole window needs readjusting if it is hitting the window trim.

Mine was doing this, so I took it to my indy BMW mechanic and he fixed it for $50.

It should have total clearance and never touch the window trim when fitted properly. Has it recently been replaced?

Try turning on the ignition without starting the vehicle.
Hold the window down button and hold for 4-5 second once its lowered its self. Then raise the window and hold the button once it reaches the top for 4-5 seconds.
This should reset the window.

Yep. There is a carpark in Adelaide that I use quite a lot and finding a park in it can be hard and the concrete pillars next to some parks mean I can't open my door without getting too close to the car next to me. So its climb through the window time or get other door dented by the tosser next to me.

I did this but all it does is show me on the idrive that my "window anti-trapping" has been disabled and then the WHOLE auto up/down doesnt work, it's full manual. I do the procedure again and it brings back auto up/down

I had the whole car painted and they removed the doors but yeah I was looking around and it isn't supposed to hit the trim even when all the way up so I'm having them re-adjust it. I also get insane wind noise at 100kmph+
