AE Performance + AR Design = Magic Combo
So I've been stock piling mods for my 335i in my living room. It got so bad that I was running out of space in my apartment so I thought today was a good day to get some of the mods installed.
Unfortunately, I've also realized that I've gotten to lazy and spoiled to crawl under the car and do my own install. So I took my car to VSMotorsports which is a local Chicagoland race shop. Almost everyone who owns a BMW knows about them as their work is top notch. VSMotorsports installed AE Performance catless exhaust and the AR Design catless downpipes. I've already been running the BMS O2 simulator for over 2 weeks now. The install went smoothly and the guys were kind enough to cut my OEM exhaust into two pieces so that it will fit in the car. Let me share some of my first experiences with this combo: 1. FITMENT OF PARTS: I cannot stress how well both products are designed. It also looks like the downpipes and the exhaust were made by the same person for my car. The grade of materials used both in the downpipes and the exhaust are top notch. Everything fit nicely and nothing had to be modified or adjusted. It all bolted right up and it fit nicely and snugly! Simply perfect execution on the manufacturing of the downpipes and the exhaust. Even the guys at VSMotorsports noted that this is the first time they have installed exhausts and downpipes that fitted so well right out of the bat! 2. SOUND EXPERIENCE: Going from completely stock to fully catless on the first install caught me by surprise. When the car was started for the very first time after the install it sounded like a big grizzly bear has been awaken from a winter's sleep. After about a minute of idle-ing everything calmed down a bit and the exhaust system established a nice tone which was not rude or annoying, but definitely reminded everyone that: "Hey I am here and don't mess with me" . Lets not forget the turbo sounds! OMG! Totally intoxicating. I can hear the two snails twisting and whistling at each other at partial and full throttle. Let off the gas pedal and you can hear the DVs working too. I must say that the soundtrack of the car has been completely transformed! ...and that's on stock intake, stock intercooler and stock software! 3. PERFORMANCE: It is definitely too early to make any claims whatsoever. What I can tell you for sure is that one can definitely feel the engine being much more lively and responsive, especially in mid to high RPMs. The butt dyno says that the car is running better for sure! Keep in mind, my car is completely stock otherwise! If you are trying to make a decision what exhaust and downpipe combo to get, look no further. Simply put, AE Performance Exhaust + AR Design catless downpipes is perhaps the best thing you can spend money on! Finally, BIG, BIG Thanks to VSMotorsports for doing a proper, professional install! They normally charge $90.00 per hour but they run specials depending on the month and day of the week. I was quoted 4 hours for both the exhaust and the downpipe install. They fit perfectly within the quote.
I suggest you give them a call and set up an appointment. Their work is great! |

I'm so stoked to hear your review, Thanks bro! I just got my AR CL dps today, I'm also waiting for the HFC cats for my AE exhaust to come in. After that it's just the Helix FMIC and I'll be set... (still deciding on PROcede vs. GIAC too). Anyway, I'm pumped! THX!

+1 for VS Motorsports. They buy all their OEM parts from me
We have a grizzly old tech that's been with our dealership for over 25 years and runs our performance division. He's an amazing wealth of information and experience, especially in setting up road course cars, precision alignment, and general performance theory/implementation. He works with VS all the time, and that alone says a great deal to me. Chris at VS actually welded up some intercooler pipes for my last project (~400hp MR2 Turbo), and they were nothing short of stunning. I'm not sure if they're buried to their eyeballs in debt, or if they have "old money," or if they won the lottery but the equipment at their shop is STATE OF THE ART. Makes our dealership look like a Car-X. |

+1 I love this combo as well. Everything you've described with your experience is spot on. DP install took barely 2 hours.
One other thing I like is how at idle, the exhaust tone, although deep, sounds so tame and laid back. But when you stomp down, it really screams and all those induction sounds are completely unrestricted. I need to get some new vids of this combo.

Manual transmission. There is a hint of a drone at cruising ONLY under 2000 rmps. Anything above 2100 rpms simply gives you stock like sound levels for cruising.
Stomp on the gas pedal and you will awaken the demons that are hiding under the bonnet! LOL |

+1 on the AE exhaust no drone and when you want it to be quiet as a mouse I just bump the stick to Drive. I have an auto and stock downpipes but when running my tune I set off car alarms quite often. Even my neighbors comment that the first time they heard me fire my car up that it grumbles power. Down shifts make me grin when rolling up to stop lights.
