335i N55 motor?

I was set to buy a new 335is, but am irked by the lack of colors, wheel options, and the no-option aluminum interior trim. So, now I'm starting to reconsider just getting a new 335i. Does anyone know if the n55 short block is the same as the N54? That is, is it just an N55 with a new engine management and turbo system, or are the block, pistons, crank, etc., different? Just trying to sort out if it will really be handicapped vs. the n55 once tuners work their magic....

Nope.

The new BMW 335is has a revised N54 engine with a different tune and changes to some components.

The N55 is completely different, but I wouldn't quite say they're a handicap yet. No one has really explored the full potential yet.

Biggest diff is the single twin-scroll turbo replacing the dual turbos in the N54, but I believe the basic engine block is the same.

N55 HAS single twin scroll turbo on the engine. Might be better for aftermarket vendor to come up with a turbo upgrade.
