Hi all, I am in the market for a SUV.

I am considering the FX35, and not the BMW as I favor the styling of the Infiniti over the X5/X3 don't bash me, I still love my 325xi.

anyway, my worries are their AWD system. it's a smart system which is 99% RWD and engages on demand. Do you think this system will be terrible in snow/ice condition. Not mainly comparing it to the xdrive, but to other AWD like audi/subaru? also this is the v6 350Z engine.

If I run the FX35 on stock tires, will I slide much?

it will be nice on snow as long as you put snow tires on it, I had Blizzaks on my FX45 and it was good, risky to use the stock tires in winter. You can get a very good one on the used market right now. If you don't mind the cheap plastic trimming inside then it is a good choice, have you tried one?

Personally I didn't much care for the interior of the FX until the facelift which is the... '06 model I believe and on. As for Nissan's AWD system I'm much in favour of it, had it on my 01 QX4 which I drove for over 5 years and loved it, but as Canuck335i said, you have to HAVE TO get snow tires.

Alot may not know but the X3 is very good. My gf just got one last week and its great. Alot of room and nice style to it too. Id still take the FX over it though but make sure you check the X3 out too, test drive wise.

I would be looking at a CPO X5 if I were in your shoes. You can find a really good 4.4 for a halfway decent price...

I picked up a CPO 2004 X5 for the wife after looking at the FX35. We hated the limited visibility of the FX (sides and rear), and really checked this out after a friend rented one and found the same. The interior is very nice.

I don't know the official figures, but I have a feeling that an FX will be more reliable as a used car and in the long-run over an X5.

maybe a recent FX, but I had a 2003 and was happy to bring it back at the end of the lease, I had my share of problems back to back with, thank god most of them was covered under warranty. The rattles I had inside that thing was unliveable, and the dealer was trying to solve the problems but was creating additional ones without curing the ones from the beginning, it drove me nuts, thats why I am like that today...

i personally can't stand the fx35/g35 exhaust tones, sounds like nothing but rice. there's this one fx35 owner (older guy) who lives in my suburban neighborhood who always blasts by my house at 50+ mph. i swear to god he thinks that shitbox SUV is a racecar. no offense to you. needless to say i ever see that little bitch outside his car i'm gonna have a nice word or two with him, and it wont be giving him props about his ugly, disgusting, slow, noisy piece of shitbox that he thinks its a fuckin racecar

the FX as we see it must be in its last year before ungoing some changes no? they came out in 2003 and all changes done where minor, mostly interior changes, anybody know for sure?

The refresh was done on the '06 model, so given that '03-'05 were the original, I'd assume that this one would run until at least an '08 model and be totally replaced as an '09 model in 2008, just my logic.

I find the Japanese pretty tight lipped about most of their future cars though so it's hard to say, they seem to drop it on the market out of the blue most of the time with only a few tidbits of info a few months in advance (with the rare exception), as opposed to the Germans who seem to want to get their prototypes and mules caught on camera years in advance seemingly to build hype and speculation...

My FX35 was horrible in the snow with the stock tires! Snow tires helped it a lot. If I was to go to an SUV again I would buy the Audi Q7 for the AWD & looks.
