Sound under the hood when locking/unlocking doors

Hi, I am new here!

I did the search but I can't find an answer on my question. I have e90 320d 177hp. When I lock or unlock the doors or even when I open the door I hear a buzzing sound under the hood. I think it comes from turbo control electronics box and control arm. When you look at it you can see that the control arm, which is moving variable turbine baldes, moves down and you can see it is vibrating. From the black box above the turbine (probably turbo control electronics box) you can hear buzzing sound, like little electric motor, for about 30 seconds then it stops. After that control arm is pushed up again. If you press lock or unlock button it starts again. Does anybody know what is car doing and is it normal? Do your cars do the same? You can try that on your car. Lisen on the turbo side of the engine. You can put your finger on that little black box above turbine to feel how it is vibrating. This is all happening while engine is off.

Never looked for what it's doing but my E92 makes odd noises when locking/unlocking.

Yep and it will go on for a few minutes. I noticed this with mine and haven't really questioned it... it's either winding up for action or winding down for the night. Either way it goes when I ask it and stops when I need it to

Just bought my car a week ago and I notice it too... I thought maybe it was the gas lid locking and unlocking. But I have no clue

I think you'll find it the fuel lift pump for the high pressure injection system

Theres a whole load of automated stuff going on, even the idrive is loading software once you click the locks.
Turbos have circulation pumps etc too to take away residual heat.
Quite a busy car these!

All of the actuator controls (VGT, EGR, Throttle, swirl) can be considered as "smart". This means they have the ability to learn their max and min positions, carry out anti-sticking cycles and so on. Some of this happens when you unlock the car, others happen when you turn the ignition on.

All modern diesels have all these actuators.

I wouldn't worry tbh and the others have summed it all up nicely imo...........so much going on with modern cars.

Mine makes a very distinctive noise when you physically open either door, it's like a lock down noise of those doors in outer space films like a sucking lol, hard to describe, but always does it and others I've driven all did it. Got to be something to do with all the electronics, personally I think it's linked to stuff being prepped and the timers for the interior lights and stuff.

Should have heard the noises the sat nav used to make on my '06 330i E90, never shut up lol.

Tell me about it!...thats why my sat nav disc is in the glovebox...crazy stuff going on in these cars! sometimes when Im out cleaning the car and its quiet you can hear it "wake up" and make a high pitch humming noise...then all is quiet again...if you stop your car and take the key out it takes about 20 min for it to sleep...you can still hear the nav dvd and inside temp sensor fan in the dash running...when the "P" light goes out its sleep time!
