BMW Junior Seat I-II ISOFIX
I know this has been discussed in the past, but i have not found any real solution yet.
I have bought this BMW seat, when my son was 9 months old. BMW Junior Seat I-II ISOFIX is approved for children with a body weight of 9-18 kg. Even though the seat back angle has two positions, they are both pretty close to vertical. So there is no comfortable reclined position for the child to sleep in. This is a big issue for us because our son's head and neck droop and hang in weird postions when he falls asleep in the seat and sometimes his neck hurts when he wakes up. The Maxi Cosy seat that we have in my wifes car, was a snap to adjust the back angle on and had a very comfortable recline angle for sleeping. Ive tried several unsafe methods to make this car seat more comfortable for my son, but it looks like i will have to buy another one.. Anyone own one, facing similar problems and found any solution to this? Any mods? People should be warned in NOT buying this car seat, its definately NOT worth the asking price by BMW. |

Are you sure your son is simply not old enough/strong enough yet for a Stage 1 car seat? You might find that in another 6-8 weeks the seat is perfect for him.
My lad grew out of his Maxi-Cosi at about 10 months but mainly because he is quite long and his feet were pushing against the back seat. I have one of the Recaro 'Young Sport' seats and that has an adjustable head support - he has always seemed quite content in it and looks comfortable. EDIT: Can post a pic if you need one? |

Don't risk doing anything unsafe, if it's not right, and I have read complaints re the lack of a proper recline on that BMW seat, then just put it down to experience and get a new one. You can sell the old one on Ebay no probs. We ditched ISO-fix after Group 0 due to the small range of seats available and the fact that ISOfix is only rated up to 18kg (4yrs apparently), our little girl is 15.5kg already at 22 months so she'd be over the limit for isofix soon anyway. Not to mention the weight of isofix seats which is massive compared to belt mount seats due to all the structural metalwork in the seat back and bases. Also watch for so called 'reclining' seats that actually have to be removed to recline them! After many many unsuccessful trials, we found the Maxi Cosi Tobi seat is fabulous, belt mount, full multi position recline with child seated, sprung belt straps that 'lift' the belts up so the child doesn't sit on them when your are trying to put them in, and its a 'tall' seat so the childs head height is in the middle of the window, so they're not trying to peer over the window cill! Don't be put off by belt mount, its a 30 second job to fit - a doddle and super secure. http://www.maxi-cosi.com/gb-en/carseats/toddler/tobi Last edited by doughboy; 06-28-2010 at 10:58 AM.. |

My son is already 13 months old now, so im pretty sure he is old enough to be sitted in that car seat, only when he is sleeping his head is dropping forwards
Im pretty sure its BMW stupid product that fools BMW Fans and new daddys, to buy that thing for twice the price of a decent proper car seat. Future buyers should be warned!!! doughboy, that is the maxi cosi ive got in my wifes Suzuki, its half the price of the BMW one, and its worth twice the price of it, and yes its a 30 second job to fit indeed.. Well it looks like if i dont find any solution to this i will have to buy a third seat for my boy |

We bought 2 seats the same - one for each car, then the little one can't moan about 1 being more comfortable than the other! and a comfy baby is a happy baby (i.e. quiet) - which is always good
The shops will always do a great deal on two seats as well - we'll be doing the same come the next upgrade. |

If your seat is Junior I - II then it'll be suitable for children with weight between 9 and 25 kg (Group I = 9-18 kg and II = 18-25 kg). When the child's weight is over 18 kg, the car's full size 3 point seat belt is used to secure the child instead of restraint cushion and the associated belt. |

simond,
my seat is Junior I - II and my son is 12kilos now, 13 months old. what i said, and you will realise it when you will start using this carseat, is that even though the seat back angle has two positions, they are both pretty close to vertical. So there is no comfortable reclined position for the child to sleep in. This is a big issue because the babies head and neck droop and hang in weird postions when he falls asleep in the seat. Keep us posted with your experience please.. |

Restrictive is what you need - hold the little critter firmly in place!!! The tighter the better! As said the issue here and read elsewhere seems to be the lack of recline for sleeping, especially with no shoulder restraints to hold the upper body back in the seat when sleeping. |

At the moment he is too small to fit in the seat as his mouth is just level with the top of the cushion at 8 months, so it'll probably be another 2 months before he can use the seat. Will report back if it works. Quote:
It better work out for the price charged by BMW! |

Trade?
I'd be willing to trade you a Britax Boulevard in Black or buy your BMW seat off of you.
The Boulevard is pretty much the state of the art for safety - its bulky though. My son is older, so the BMW Seat would suit him fine. |

michifan, i would be more than happy to sell you my carseat, but i think shipping charges would be restrictive.
btw its the BMW SAUBER F1 that ive got and ive used it only in the last three months and not on daily basis as my BMW sits in the garage duri ng the week.. so im using it only during the weekends and if im going for a long drive, i do swap the seats with my wifes carseat, as i entioned above. |
