335i DCT Seven speed gearbox
When in manual sports mode and flooring it off a roundabout it drops to 2nd gear which is right at the top of the rev range and so changes up 2000 revs on. Do you think it's better to have it in 3rd gear for maximum acceleration.
I've also noticed that when you press the accelerator hard it stops but press it even harder at it has a stiff click about half a cm from the floor. Does everyone else have this? Sorry for all the questions, but do people when in auto mode tend to use the gears manually when slowing down to save on the brakes? |

I have DCT on my M3, and when approaching roundabouts, etc I always shift down the box myself, the same way as you would in a manual car. That way YOU make the decision on what gear you exit the roudabout in, not the car!
Mine also has the 'click' on the accelerator pedal - if you use launch control, you have to push the pedal past the end of the normal operating range, until the pedal 'clicks' - if you haven't tried LC yet, I would!!! It's great fun! Just find yourself 1/4 mile of quiet straight road and enjoy yourself immensely |

I'll try the roundabouts on the way home tonight. I am sure that even if I manually select third then floor it passed the click it will drop into 2nd.

I will do, unless you're in full manual. EG lever over to the left and forwards, any other selection and the car will think it knows best and downshift. Full manual on the 335i (I think the M3 is different) is the only way to have full control, having said that, the box will change down if you're going to slow for any selected gear, say for instance 10mph in 4th. |

Yes, moving left puts it in sports auto, which holds revs for much longer before upshifts blips the throttle on down shifts, but is still auto, while in this position, move the level either fowards/back and you'll be in full manual mode, you HAVE to change yourself and there is no kickdown in this mode. You will know when you're in full manual mode, as the engine will rev it's tits off, because you have forgotten to shift up When in this mode it makes for great sequential up/down shifts |

On the M3, if it is in auto the car shifts up and down the box by itself. There is settings from 1-5 to alter how quick/sporty the gearchanges are (ie: how long it holds the revs etc) - I leave mine set at the default D2 which the car resets back to when it is started.
However, as soon as you use the paddles once (say on a downshift approaching a roundabout) the car is now in Manual mode. If you accelerate away again, it will only shift up with the paddles (or up/down of the gearstick) or unless you knock it back into D (auto mode). Once in manual mode, the only time the car will change gear is the anti-stall feature which will drop down the gears if you don'r do so manually, for instance on a roundabout or junction. On the 335i then, does it not stop in Manual mode once the paddles have been used? 'Bigtime' - I am guessing you haven't checked out the launch control yet - you really should do |

The 335i shifts back to auto automatically after a period of time if no gear changes have happened when in manual mode. This is only when coming out of auto into manual by using the paddles.

Thanks for the replies - Right then I've tried this last night in my 335i. If you knock the gear lever over to the left, press the sport button then mobe the gearstick forward/backward it is in manual mode, but I floored it in 3rd past the click at the bottom of the pedal doing around 30mph and it dropped to 2nd gear on it's own. Creepy please can you try this and floor it past the click to see if yours drops a gear on its own?
M3 Fast - I'll have to read up on the launch control, obviously it won't be as impressive as in the M3 but worth a go I imagine when pulling off the drive in the morning. |

I have and it doesn't.I also don't have this resistance switch thingy you describe. I don't really see the point in the sport button TBH, the difference is so subtle it hardly worth pressing, Sport Auto though, now that's worth having. |

Creepy - Are you sure? If you just sit in the car without the engine running and floor the accelerator just before the botton I get a little click. It's after this click it always drops it into the gear for maximium acceleration.
Has anyone else got this click or is mine unique? |

I haven't done as you describe BT, but have nail the loud pedal while in complete manual mode from around 50mph in 7th and no kick down, which is what I'd expect, the cars not with me today, so I can’t go out and try, although I agree there must be some way for the ECU to know when too kick down, when in auto mode. |

Well it looks like to keep mine in full manual mode I have to floor it but not too hard so it stays above the click. You do have to press really hard though as it took me by surprise when I first did it after 2 - 3 weeks of owning the car.

Mine will definitely kick down in auto mode, as my wife found out on our return from France last year, she took the helm for the first time and floored it getting back onto the motorway, the needle hit 7k and all hell broke loose.

Hi Steve,
Things are great with the M3. Its like having a 335i for the first time again but with a better sound. The new ones coming in two weeks. BIGTIME, why dont you just do search for 3335i DCT and you will probably find all the answers you need. Its all been discussed before. Dougie. |
