Tracking from port in U.S. to VPC to dealer?
Anyone figure out a way to track your car once it hits port in the U.S.? I know how to track it through various methods up till here... Also, I know the dealer can help, but any other way? Thanks for the help.

I remembered attempting to track rail and truck transport during my active tracking days, but those efforts proved fruitless.
I see you are in the midwest, iirc your car should be coming out of charleston? We tried to track the Norfolk South train from the port to the VPC/VDC but you need special access to the tracking site. Tracking the trucks is another thing altogether, couldn't figure that one out. Your best bet at this juncture is your CA who would be able to get the latest info including the in-transit damage report from the VPC. GL and happy tracking. Your wait is winding down now, another 1 to 1.5 weeks to go (hopefully).

I figured as much... Just getting antsy. My order was placed Oct 23rd. The wait is driving me to drink. I will say this... delayed gratification can be fun though. Not sure what I'll do with my time once I don't have boats and cars to track.

the pre-delivery anxiety/jitters. I remembered being giddy with excitement. At the same time it was bittersweet as we had a lot of fun tracking our boat (the good ol don juan) together in February 2006 (refer here) and docking meant the end of our journey.

Yeah... for me it's the Emden. I've never realized the "underworld" known as "on-line tracking". All the sites... www.sailwx.info... www.kline.com... www.scspa.com (S.C. port authority)... www.bmwusa.com... 1-800 numbers... It's really a trip. If I was rich I would do what the guys in the middle east do. Buy cars online at a $10000 premium and then pay $20000 to have them shipped in TWO days from a dealer in US to them. My dealer just sold two X5's for $75000 each plus $20000 to ship! YIKES!

That's a tough one, it's totally up to the dealership at that point. With mine, based on another customer's car coming in that morning, my CA called and said mine should be there that evening. Even the screen showed a 7-day discrepancy between when it arrived and when it was supposed to arrive.
My educated guess is that it's very possible for a car to be off-loaded and at the dealership in 4 business days. Mine was, and I hope everyone else's can do the same. The wait is a killer, but the day you take delivery will more than make up for it, I promise! |
