335i- Professional driving on the track.
Well people, I hope you find this post Interesting.
Before the end of each calendar year, one of the biggest car magazines in the country ,is gathering the "elite" cars of the season and they are putting them on the track against each other as well against the lap times that the previous years-cars-made. This year was, no doubt, the year of the 335i. The lap times of 335i was superior than the SLK 55 AMG ,Z4 M & RS4 while they made exactly the same time with Cayman S. That proves that despite the fact other cars are quicker (on road) than 335i ,the total "set-up" & balance of the 335i allows it to perform amazing track times. The picture below is in "Greek" but i'm certain you can get the point. I will make additional posts on this with pictures and other additional comments. Please drop a line and let me know what you think

Wow, for all intents and purposes, even on a track going for best lap times, 335 = M3, RS4, and Cayman S.
In the bang for the buck category, interior and stlying notwithstanding, EVO's and STI's are awesome. Thanks for the scan! |

Lies. I need to see the track layout and know if it was all the same driver or not. In addition, I need to know if the "professional" was a professional car magazine writer.
I refuse to believe that the M coupe and the EVOVIII lost to the 335i on a track. |

Those guys has racing background and they are journalists as well (how bad could they be??) . The fact that companies like Ferrari ,Porsche,Mercentes & BMW are giving them their cars to do such a thing/comparison, means that they do it in the right way and they are the best people to do that. As for the years...this event happens once per year so they included to the records the cars that raced/tested on previous years. I have also a full detailed map of the track but I'm out of scanner now...I will post it later. I promise...

The M coupe lost to the 335 not because its less quick but due to its different set-up as a car and less stability. The same goes to EVOIII. Just think about the RS4!! Its a 4wd car with 420Hp and then again it performes slower than Cayenne that is less than 300Hp !!! This is the beauty of the track my friend...the whole set-up of the car is important for the lap times. If we were talking about drag-race ,then yes the Cayenne,RS4 ,EVOIII ,M coupe would be quicker than 335...But that was not a drag-race.

Guys...please also take note that the 335 of the test was automatic (with paddles). The driver commented after the laps that if it was "manual" the times would be even better.

I'm well aware that it's not a drag-race. If it were a drag-racing situation, I could see the 335i possibly ousting those two. |

That's why I love the track. All the benchracing BS goes out the window and it's just you and your recorded times and if racing, where you finished.

That's pretty sweet. I wanna see more results on more tracks.

Also, like bronco mentioned, the M cars have LSDs, which should offer a pretty significant advantage of stability into a corner, and a higher exit speed out of it. Combined with a lighter weight, I really don't see how they would be slower. Both the Evo and the M3 should come with a more aggressive camber setting than the 335i. But who knows, I have yet to see the track where this was tested. Maybe there is some random sector that causes the 335i to lap quicker times. |
