How Long Does it take for BMW to replace turbos?
Hey guys so a couple weeks ago I took my car into have the 30k mile service done and at the same time I told them to fix my rattling wastegates. They did just like every one on here and checked the update which was current and they they replaced the wastegates/actuators and it was ok for a couple days then it got louder and more prevalent then it was originally. I talked to the tech(I know him from the gym) and they told me to bring the car in and the only other step they could think of was to change out the turbos. Do you know how long this would take and does a rep have to come look at it or anything?

i believe they send all the facts to bmw NA and wait to get approval so they can get paid for the work.. and the approval takes around 2 days.

Figure its at least 16-20hours of just removing the turbos and replacing, and yes, that is per BMW, and it COULD take longer if they move slowly and take their time. I had mine replaced, took 2-3 days shipping each turbo, 2-3 days to get a techout, 2-3 days each time they put a new turbo in (twice), so it eneded up being 5 weeks they had mine. If they dont have turbos in stock and dont replace both at the same time, your looking at 2 weeks easy.
Also, FWIW, I waited about 500 or so miles before I opened the car up well. Just kept it below 4k and didnt really jump on it and gradually starting giving it more juice. I figured it couldnt hurt anything. This was under mostly city miles, if you have 500 highway miles that wont do anything because its never seeing boost anyway. Need some good city stuff to hit low end boost, 1-4psi or so. |

I brought my car in on Monday and had my car back by thursday for my Turbo swap through warranty. But here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we probably have more regional reps cruising around than most areas except for maybe the LA area.
