Does anybody get a squeaky noise at low speeds from a dead stop? Not sure what it is but it's coming from my tires. Thank you for any input.

I get that from my right rear wheel. I took it four times to two dealers and I still have it. It was gone for about six months but it came back.

I had that problem too. They changed the brake pads and nothing since. Maybe get them changed? Its under my maintenance plan so I figured it couldnt hurt !

i have the same problem. it is not coming from your brakes right? you don't necessarily have to hit the breaks for the noise to arrise. I have no idea what it is, it happens most but not all of the time and it's really freakin annoying. have ahd it for a while.

Yeah, I took it like 3-4 times before they changed the rear brakes.

yeah its the brakes, I had the worst time trying to replicate the sound for the dealer though as it does it off and on.

Mine is doing it yet again....got it fixed last fall and they replaced the rear brake sensor and it was gone for awhile until recently. Soooo, my car goes back on Friday to fix the problem again. Hope this time around they just change out my brakes.

There's no fixing it. Had the dealer replaced the pads over 5 times, the problem still came back. The last time they changed out all the rotors and brake pads and now the noise came back again. I just learned to live with it.

It's kind of embarrassing, driving around in a Bimmer that squeaks, but there's nothing I can do about it.

sounds like your parking brake pads in the rear are adjusted too tightly, they are brake shoes that ride on the inside surface of the rear rotor, if they are adjusted tight they will be constantly rubbing and squeaking on the rotor.

if the squeaky noise is not constant, rather it corresponds to the "bounce" (either via bumps or the weight shift in the car) of the car, then most likely it's due to the brake sensor coming in contact with the rotor. This is a well known issue, and there is no permanent solution for it, yet. If you are still under warranty some dealers maybe willing to replace the pad for you which will alleviate the issue for a little while (until the pad is worn down to where the sensor touches again) and the noise will return.

I don't think it's the e-brake. This is a well known issue that BMW knows about. There are tons of threads/posts in this forum about this. The problem is the pad sensor which rubs against the disk from a stop or at very slow speeds. Do this test, if you press the brakes the squeaking goes away.

BMW has replaced the pads, disks and pad wear sensor but as the pads wear down it's very very likely that the squeaking will return. It's a design flaw with the geometry of the sensor and there's really nothing you can do about it. The only thing is to remove the brake pad sensor from the rear and short the pins to "fool" the car into thinking the pads are ok. You'll have to check for the wear on your own but the squeak will be gone and rear pads last thousands of miles so it's no big deal, do a search, someone has done it here I remember. It's not the disks or pads, it's the sensor.

Hey all. i just removed my sensor yesterday and i still had the squeak noise. Then after some help from a friend we found the noise comin from the drivers side rear. We tried engaging the e-brake a little bit and rode with it up and there was no squeak and let off on it and still no squeak....so right now im stumped as to what the cause is since the sensor and e brake seem to not be the problem...possibly the pads them self's???

I have a low speed squeak too, most noticeable when pulling away from a stop or making a turn in first gear. Having the dealer look at it on Friday.

I had one on the front passenger side that squeaked rather loudly at low speeds when going over road imperfections. I could easily hear it with my windows rolled down.

The local dealer replaced the strut and the squeak has never come back. Crazy, huh?

For me, the worst part was that the replacement strut blew its gasket and put oil (clear) all over my garage floor, wheel, etc. It had to be replaced yet again. They say this is very rare, but it happens.

Have a friend push down on each corner to bounce the car lightly, while you listen within the wheel well. If need be, you can put a small plastic hose up to your ear to help isolate the source of the noise, if you have any lying around (cheap at home depot).

I had exact same problem so I went to dealers and they said the problem is the tires so I went to the place where I got my tires. These guys from tireshop said tires don't make squeaky sounds. So I had to go back to the dealers again. I let them check again and they said wheels are bent and asked me a lot of $$ for a new wheels. So I told them to hold on and took my car to the other autoshop. The guy from autoshop said wheels are slightly bent, but there is no problem at all and all I need is to replace my rotors and brake pads.........so I took my car to the dealers again!!!! and told them what the mechanic said. This guy from the dealers said that squeaky sound is normal to BMW cars(wtf???? then what was all about tires and wheels???). He said he'll test drive my car and told me to sit on passenger seat. He started to drive my car and I could hear squeaky sound right away but this fxxing deaf said he can't hear it. I told him to roll down the windows and finally he agrees that there is a problem.

When I went to the dealer last week, they told me the low-speed squeak is normal too. Due mostly to a build up of brake dust over time. The tech said the best way to deal with it is to do a few panic stops every so often, and take a pressure washer to the calipers.

it needs to be under 6mm

I am very chill with my SA and whatnot so I got mine replaced at 6.5mm
I said that is it really worth it for me to take the car back and return it in a week or so

it squeaks case of the sensor I believe

my rears hit 4mm before I had time to take it in, sound drove me nuts, esp with the top down
