New turbos and the wastegate rattle is worse?

Does that even make sense? Turbos were replaced, and what was once the marbles sound on the down-rev from no-load revving is now turned into a louder marbles sound revving up between about 2000 and 3500 rpms - load and no load. What gives? Is this normal?

Thanks

I wish I got a 335d- I got a 128i base and I cant believe the suspension on this thing-its worse then like a Lexus. At 80mph I am holding the steering wheel with 2 hands cause the suspension is terrible. I'm not complaining I am glad they gave me a car but I cant believe BMW would put such a bad suspension on a car!

Just a couple days, I think. They had the car for a week, but it was in for about 4 other things as well. They're pretty quick.

It's tough to replicate this, it's somewhat intermittent....but I'm going to try and bring it back.

Hi all,
New to the boards (though i've been lurking). Just bought an 07 335i with 21,000 miles. Took it to the dealer to fix the rattle. They ended up just changing the actuators. I'll let you all know how it goes after i pick up the car tomorrow morning. If anyone is interested, I dropped it off on Friday and they were done by COB Monday.

I'm thinking I may be SOL, referencing SIB 11 33 07:

Complaints received regarding a slight rattle from this area under steady acceleration in the 2,000 RPM to 4,000
RPM range are due to the rotating waste gate valve face; this is a characteristic of the mechanical waste gate. The
rotating waste gate valve face is necessary to ensure proper sealing. This slight rattle noise is considered normal
operation of the mechanical waste gate valve. No repair should be attempted for this type of rattling complaint.

Which is exactly when my rattle is occurring. Guess I'm going to have to live with it.

It is an awful noise no doubt. I had a on and off low boost CEL. I have had the car in 2-3 times for the same problem. I took it to a different dealership, they did a bunch of tests and gave me the car back 8 working days later with new turbos. I have had them for about 200 miles and no complaints so far.

I would just keep complaining, my SA said that if people bitch enough they will eventually just replace the turbos.

The turbos WERE replaced. Judging by the SIB, this is considered "normal operation." Luckily it's bearable.

Well fingers crossed. I just talked to the tech that works on my car tonight at the gym. He is a cool guy and I always talk to him-anyways, He said that the did indeed put new turbos on and said that they were upgraded with stonger wastegates or actuators(forgot which). He said they just finished tonight with it and when he drove it there is no rattle. Cant wait to have it back tom!

make sure that they didn't warranty your turbos and put them in one of their own cars.....I would have them checked by a different dealer!

So I've been driving around for a few days now. They replaced just the actuators (read above post). I hear a slight rattle every now and then when shifting, but much better than before. I think I'll just live with it for now rather than have the dealership blindly trying different fixes hoping that one of them works. Luckily my BOV is arriving soon so that should mask the noise hehe.
