Engine oil help
The warning indicator came on tonight, said I needed to add +1L of oil
I checked the manual and it says BMW Long-life rating LL-01 or similar oils. I couldn't find anything like that at Shell. This thread here says 0W-40 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=391467 I did another search and found a e92 coupe manual PDF that says 5W-40 synethtic is OK. ![]() So... pretty confused at the moment, which is the oil I need?! I actually already filled 1L of the following: http://www.shell.com.hk/home/content...e/helix_ultra/ but if this is the wrong one, I would like to know so I can get a real oil change tomorrow! |

Mobil 1 0W-40 Ultimate All-Round Performance Synthetic is the only engine oil BMW HK recommends. It is available at most Exxon gas stations at HKD19x a litre.
As a matter of fact, just replaced the engine oil of my E91 a week ago. Although it was only a little bit less than 7,000 km since the previous change (which came free from BMW HK at the end of the 1-year manufacturer's warranty), the color of the drained oil appeared rather dark. Don't know how bad it will look if I follow the on-board computer to go another 8,000 km. I think the engine oil's early deterioration was a result of our short daily trips between the Mid-Levels and Wanchai. |

Seems such a difference from Japanese vehicles, I drove my Accord Coupe forever before requiring an oil change, seems the BMW engines eat through this oil like candy...
