Firmware #18: Procede Built-in Dual Wideband Air/Fuel Ratio monitoring
Instead of spending an additional $500-1000 to install an aftermarket dual wideband AFR systems (Innovative, AEM, Autronic, etc,.) and even more money trying to integrate it into your tune for active safety/leanrun protection, now you can have it FOR FREE by just updating your Procede's firmware at home
Monitoring AFR AND implementing lean-run failsafes is VERY important for any car running close the limits of the factory fuel system. This means all those folks who are, or plan to, run upgraded turbochargers and/or nitrous. How it works: Procede now monitors, through the CANbus network, DME-perceived lambda values from both Bank 1 and Bank 2 wideband o2 sensors. Then it applies a correction based up the wideband bias voltage it applies. Then it converts lambda to AFR by multiplying it by 14.7. And voila, ACCURATE dual-bank AFR values that are more precise and faster-responding than any of those tail-pipe mounted sniffers you see at dyno shops. And since it reads both banks, before they are merged together, you can monitor individual banks and catch problems at the earliest possible stage before they can cause engine problems. The Procede actively monitors BOTH these channels every time the engine goes on boost. If AFR ever goes leaner than the desired threshold, it triggers a self-protective valet mode accompanied by a single SES light flash every 5 seconds indicating a Leanrun fault condition. The new firmware will be posted tomorrow, along with new maps (with leanrun protection active) and new and improved User Software. In the meantime, here's a datalog with the new ACTUAL Air/Fuel Ratio channels: So now the Procede comes with the follow unique features: -AutoTuning -Built-in/integrated Diagnostic tool for code reading/clearing -Built-in downpipe fix -Built-in speed delimiter -Built-in dual-bank wideband AFR monitoring -Built-in Progressive methanol mapping -Dashboard Integration for mapswitching/displays -Ignition/fuel/boost Control that adheres to basic engine tuning theory -And no BS marketing Cheers, shiv Last edited by OpenFlash; 07-14-2010 at 03:53 AM.. |

Time to rename those channels. Very cool implementation.
I must say Shiv, you keep reinventing the Procede every 6 months. I really hope all this gets ported over to the new N63. I think you got what many people wanted. Awesome

Shiv, do you have any AFR data from an aftermarket non-dme wideband to compare this data against? That stock DME CAN data can be very unreliable at times.

I am running a free air calibrated dual sensor Innovative Motorsports lambda meter. And the factory sensor data is faster responding and arguably more accurate. The sensor is unreliable for you only because of the non-corrected wideband bias effect induced by your jb3. So your CAN readings from your BT tool will only be accurate at cruise while reading much leaner-than-actual under boost when the bias effect is strongest.

Either way, I just thought it would be interesting to see your Innovative AFR data versus your corrected CANbus AFRs to compare. |

Video Demo:
The factory widebands have faster response time and will undoubtedly last longer than aftermarket wideband AFR meters. |

My Observations in 5 seconds (:19 - :24 sec) (7 sample reads) The Innovative AFR goes from 14.6 ->13.2 -> 20.9 -> 66.1 ->19.6 -> 14.5 ->14.2 The Procede AFR goes from 14.3 -> 29.4 -> 29.4 ->19.2 -> 15.3 -> 15.8 -> 14.3 Why the such a difference in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th read?

Compare recovery times after the deccel/fuel cut after i revved the engine. Procede updates the afr display 10x/sec. Quite a bit faster than the handheld display.

Any idea when checksumming firmware after loading it to the Procede will be added? This is pretty important to verify it was loaded correctly.

shiv or anyone that knows, i asked in the other thread about whether there is a gauge available for the procede that I can monitor afr's and other parameters without having to install additional sensors? I dont like driving around with my laptop on
