BMW Price Increase in January?
Any truth to this email I received today... I have not heard about this anywhere else...
"As of January 1st the invoice price on all BMWs are increasing by 1%. Your current offer is below our cost."

Not sure, but what I don't get is why they are telling you your offer is below their cost. If that's true, it's not a serious offer. If that's the case, it doesn't need a response. Sounds like a weird situation--did you check edmunds?

I offered $800 over Edmunds invoice. I'm guessing that when they say "their costs" that this does not equate to their invoice.

You're not providing nearly enough information. Tell us exactly what car you spec'ed out and exactly how much you offered to pay for it. Does that include MACO? Training?
Then someone can give you a good idea of how accurate the e-mail response was. |

I recently asked for quotes for a car that will be March production and thus will not be actually ordered until the end of January. In no case did anybody mention a price increase and where an amount over invoice was mentioned, the invoice price was the one in effect now.
Note that Edmunds invoice does not include the Training Fee ($180) and MACO. Both of these are legitimate parts of the invoice price although the amount of MACO varies by location (and may be 0 in some locations). I realize that the actual dealer cost is actually less due to incentives but the amount of the incentive is both a closely guarded secret and not even known at the time of purchase so no dealer will base a quote on it. |

I realize pricing threads will never go away, there are just too many variables. List, invoice, training fees, etc. People will say they got 3300 below list on a 335 coupe that people are waiting now 14 wks. for, and we'll all look with curiousity, then we find out there was a trade and it was a lease. To me, any time a deal is not a cash price (if you finance you bring your own), all bets are off, we can't simply easily evaluate it in cyberspace. Without knowing any more, if someone emailed me something is below their cost, they're implying there's nothing more to talk about. We know that in car sales, that's pretty rare. But when someone says they just added $800 to edmunds invoice, I have a better idea. |
