1st time service
Hi all,
I bought my 2007 335 from a non-bmw dealer with 32k miles. They changed the oil prior to sale. They also offered a 2 yrs of free oil changes for free. I am due for an oil change now but I have yet to take it in to the BMW dealer. Will the BMW dealer say anything about the other dealer's service? Being a new owner, will they look the car over and determine when service will be needed? Not really used to having a warranty and feel like a newb so any help would be appreciated. |

Service is determined by the display on your dash (CBS). I wouldn't even mention service by the other dealer.

was the car cpo? even though you didnt buy at a bmw dealership im under the impression the warranty follows the car....if thats the case your bmw dealer should honor it regardless where you bought it...but like the above post your car will tell you when you need service...the cars computer will send a message to bmw and the SA will relay the message to you....actually i think the SA will call you like " heyyyy buddy your car called our service center and told us its wants to stop in to get its router changed" haha
i dont know if thats the case for all years makes and models buttttt... |

The car was not CPO'd. It is still under warranty with BMW. I did check that before I bought it. I registered the car with BMW NA but I have never spoke to the local dealer so I don't see how they would know what my readings were.
I guess I just need to call them. I don't have a SA that I am aware of. |

Wow, I never heard of that, I wonder when did that start?! To the OP, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for BMW to call you to set up service especially when the car is still under warranty.

BMW TeleServices. BMW TeleServices is an innovation that utilises wireless communication between your BMW and your BMW Service Centre to transmit service-relevant information. Before your next service is due, key vehicle status data is automatically delivered to your BMW Service Centre. This ensures they can be thoroughly prepared when your vehicle arrives and avoids unnecessary servicing time and expense. When a service is due, BMW TeleServices automatically sends all relevant data from the Condition Based Service system (CBS) to your BMW Service Centre. They will then call you to arrange a service and discuss any extra work that may be required. Thanks to the information received, service staff know which Original BMW Parts need to be ordered in advance and how much work the service will involve. This helps to ensure servicing time is kept to a minimum. In addition, you can make a Manual BMW Teleservice Call should you wish to contact your BMW Service Centre yourself. By selecting the menu item "Send Service Data", you can send up-to-date information on your vehicle's condition with regard to statutory inspection requirements. Your BMW Service Centre will then call you to discuss the forthcoming service and to arrange a convenient time for an appointment. |

My concern with the "free" oil changes is that I seriously doubt they will use BMW approved oil which is not cheap. Since you have a turbo charged engine it is important to strictly adhere to the manufactuer's specs for oil. Since it is under warranty just take it to the BMW dealer. I would not bother with the selling dealers free oil changes.

Everything went well today. Got assigned a SA and got an oil change with check up free under warranty. They did confirm that my car does not have TPMS sensors. This is was pretty sure about but sucks still. My winter wheels that I bought are supposed to have sensors so I will have to swap them at some point.
I told him I would talk to him next year to discuss extending my warranty before it runs out |
