Unhappy AW E90 LCI Splitters install. (fitment issues) ----- RESOLVED!!!

RESOLVED!: paypal refunded my money and i bought JBSpeed splitters. Review on them here! http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...02#post7849002

__________________________________________________

Guys, Mforce was the only source for oem-style LCI splitters but then they closed down before i had the chance to order. Being desperate, I scoured ebay to find some decent oem-style splitters.

i specifically asked would the fitment of the parts be good? and he replied in the email
Quote:
the painting and fitment is good.
Man was i wrong, the pictures they posted on ebay fitted like a glove! the ones i received from them have horrible fitment. I don't like doing this either but I am now currently in a dispute on paypal with the seller as this is just unacceptable.

The sides would bulge out to the point that not even any adhesive would hold it in place. If i forcefully bend it in, It will crack the splitters. I don't know why it sticks out on the side and there are even large gaps along the splitter when placed against my car.

The seller responds to my dispute and this is what he has to say:
Quote:
there are two screws at each side of the bottom of the bumper and you need to remove them before install. then fit the splitter on the bumper, use the two screws to go through the splitter and then fasten onto your bumper. you will find now the splitter fits on your bumper correctly. then apply the silicon glue at the edge of the splitter to hold it tightly onto your bumper. use normal tape to hold the splitter up to position for 2-3 days.

kindly try to install as above and we have done this to our customers for hundreds times and it fits very well.
since they sold hundreds of these has anyone done installed splitters like that before? forcefully bend them around the bumper and let silicone glue hold it in place? what kind of glue should i use, i doubt even the strongest glue can prevent it from bulging out again. He makes it sound like its normal, when it has obvious fitment issue. Not to mention i have to drill my own holes? That wasn't in the item description...

look at this example of how replica splitters should fit.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=324452

and this is how simple an install should be. no fuss, no silicone glue, no clamps to force it in place. Just add tape and you're done.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=splitter

help me justify this as i hope justice can be served and to settle this paypal dispute.

(being considerate, i will not disclose this ebay member in public, PM me if you want to find out his name)

Tell me about it....They expect me to drill my own holes? thats not even mentioned in the ebay item description. NOW JBSpeed has these instock, lesson learned. I should've waited longer.
I wish i bought OEM but I'm comparing these splitters to other replica splitters and they fit much better.

vendors are welcome to chime in too!

I agree - send them back, with copies of those pictures showing that they clearly don't fit. I don't see how he can dispute your claim given those pics.

Those are not Pre-LCI splitters. Pre LCI splitters have a top edge. These are clearly really poor-fitting LCI splitters. Good luck, I hope you get your refund.

wow. Im so glad i didnt go with splitters on ebay for second time.

I dont know why u say there is only one sponsor with those splitters. Mforce fit would of been bad too.

JL MOTORING!!!!!! Fit and finish is PERFECT! u will not see a difference from OEM.
I had em and they were awesome.

Now reading ur thread im def going with JL again if i decide to buy splitters again.

Indeed your inputs reconfirmed my suspicion to the quality of these splitters. The seller makes it sound like I'm ignorant and is doing everything all wrong while the rest are right.

thank you for your input and support. here is an update after he told me to remove the screws. The result is marginally closer fit but I still cant close the gaps on the bottom because the lower part does not flex and the bulges on the side are still the same.

the seller is still not convinced and this is what he has to say:

Quote:
It is very strange why the item cannot fit. we installed this for customers many times and it fits very well. I will test the same item for you on the car on Monday when I back to work and then take photoes to show you the installation process.

please wait for my further reply.

BTW, please take a full picture of the front view of your car and send the picture to me. then I will check and see what kind of car you have and if there is any problem.
alright. I obliged and took frontal shots of the car. I just don't see the point in doing this. Judging from my pictures and video, its obvious my car is the right model for the part. e90 LCI. anyways, frontal shots from a distance.

I will keep you guys updated on Monday to see what magical solution he has to bend the splitter in place without flexing or stressing the component itself.

I think E92lighting and JBspeed now have painted LCI splitters. Not sure about quality though, haven't seen any posts yet, but I've been considering getting a set.

Yeah same here. I aready contacted JB speed and will be purchasing them.after my dispute settles.

I still don't get why he wants to me take frontal shots of the car... he wants to see if in putting these splitters on the right car! I thought I already did that in my first set of photos clearly showing my lci e90...he makes it sound like.he is implying that I'm.putting these on the wrong car and I'm ignorant...
Thank you for testifying to this problem guys!

just a quick update.

I went to Home Depot on the weekend and called up some local auto parts supplier (Lordco and Napa) They all told me 3M tape is the way to install it. Silicone glue is for different application purposes, designed to seal gaps and watertight certain areas which is totally unrelated to cars. If caulking is the correct adhesive for car applications, then Lordco and Napa would've stocked a whole range of silicone glue, but that is not the case.

basically, If 3M tape cannot hold the part down, Its clearly a fitment issue because 3M tape can withstand weight and pressure of up to 5 pounds.

If they tell me to use silicone caulking to buckle the sides and fill the seams in the front, they might as well tell me to use a staple gun to nail it down. this is just complete nonsense.

Can any one tell me why I should choose silicone caulking over double-sided tape? the more input the better!

I've read so many stories on vendors blatantly denying refunds and ignoring their clients. Now i know how it feels like to be bullied by them.

final update because I have just escalated the claim for paypal to judge.

seller's response:
Quote:
I have tested the product on the car and attached are pictures for installation and fitment. please note you need
to apply silicon glue, not 3M tape to pasted it after screwed. once done, use normal tape to hold it for 2-3 days. we have installed many times of this product and we suggest you go to the body shop to do the
installation. this is not the fitment issue but how you install the item. thanks!
taking this what originally meant to be a simple fool-proof installation to the bodyshop? that just means he admits to fitment issues and he wants me to pay extra to mend his lack of quality control.

so now he is blaming me that i'm doing it wrong? excuse me, but getting that to stick there with glue is nearly impossible. also he ignored me on the issue of the seams on the bottom of the splitter. I dont think he took the time to watch my video. If it was that easy to install, i wouldn't be here to waste my time.

cant he see that I'm the one being reasonable here while he is not? also what ever happened to honoring his return policy....
