Tire recall at BMW Dealerships...
It seems like BMW tires are being "recalled" in some way
Basically go to the dealer and say the tires are making too much road noise and feel uncomfortable...BMW seems to cover the new tires and installation. |

There was a recall awhile ago on the lower level Bridgestones (Turanza's i think?) that they replaced on my mother's 328.

1st gen Bridgestone Turanza EL42 16" had a noise issue caused by feathering but the dealer's were only allowed to replace them under warranty if the car was under a certain mileage.
Recall, probably not, nobody died because of them. EL42's are on it's 4th generation (correct me if i'm wrong), and this re-design has shown no problems other than the usual bellyaches. Last edited by TheDarkone; 07-28-2010 at 01:39 PM.. |

4 new pieces of rubber on mine this afternoon, which i honestly never asked for...i mentioned in passing last month my steering column was making noise...they took that to mean the tires, and here we are.
and the lady next to me was getting new rubbers on her e90 also covered by BM...i overhead at service, suggesting this is influenced by some bmw-wide "recall" worry...or something like that... |

Wow, I wonder if I can look into this. I had grinding noise from my car after a week with my 328i 07' CPO.
Thought it was the Alignment, brought it to Dale's and the guy took it for a ride, thought it might be the tires. The alignment was perfect (ie no adjustment was needed). I also have the tire warranty, but hopefully will not need to use it? |

Well I got a cpo last year with slightly over 30K. In the US, the dealer pays for the full cost of the tires at 100% if it is under 20,000 miles and does a 50/50 share with the customer if the car has between 20 to 30K miles(32 to 48K kilometres). According to my dealer, the limit is 30K(18L miles) kilometres in Canada in order that BMW Canada will do a 50/50 share of cost of replacement so effectively Canadian consumers get screwed.
I thought that this noise at high speed had to do with the suspension or ball bearings but in fact, it was the tires altogether. |

went to dealership...of course at the road test there was no loud noise but the steering was off and the tech thought it could be due to the tires.
SA says that feathering is "normal" as the RFT's age Is that a bunch of BS or is BMW only replacing the RFT's on the leases??? car has 25000km ***update*** just spoke with my SA...they talked to the CPO sales and said it was premature wear, and will replace both front tire at no cost... I guess I must buy a lotto ticket today..... Last edited by seanbig; 07-30-2010 at 06:02 PM.. |
