BMW Performance Power Kit just installed! First Impressions!

Firstly, I know that there are chips and flashes available for a fraction of the cost with greater gains, however I wanted the most reliable way for increased performance while retaining my warranty, and without any possible deleterious effects on the longevity of my engine, turbos, etc... So no flaming please!

1. The kit is amazingly complete and contains a high performance radiator fan with the necessary relays and wiring harness, accessory radiator for the driver's side fender well, high flow piping for the coolant, air ducts that mount beside the driver side fog lights, a brand new upgraded ECU (mine went from DMS 80 to 81), and even upgraded BOSCH spark plugs!!

2. Install took 3 days for my mentally retarded dealer!!!

3. The performance enhancement I have noticed so far is all that I was hoping for. After having my car reflashed (needed for my electronic PSW to work), I never had the rocket like acceleration that my pre-29.2 car came with.... and I really missed that... now with the power kit, my car RIPS OFF THE LINE from standstill like a rocket sled and screams all the way to redline as strong and smooth as ever, NO LAG WHATSOEVER!!! and best of all, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WASTEGATE RATTLE!!!

4. Last but not least, I have noticed that my oil and water temps are a FULL 10 degrees Celsius COOLER than before, and I have yet to see my water temp reach 100 and oil temps reach 120 degrees, even after multiple WOT runs!!!!!! They would previously hit 115 and 130 C, respectively.!!!

CONCLUSION. IMHO, this kit is a must for those of us in hot climates who are looking for that extra OOOMPH in performance....!!! NICE WORK BMW!

Im confused that you mention the worry of maintaining your warranty but you take the car in with catless DP's and a FMIC. Then you claim to have an insider, so why not worry about the DP's and FMIC and worry about a tune/piggyback?

True, but what about the extra cooling the power kit provides? And the fact that the raised boost provided by piggybacks will definitely adversely affect the longevity of your engine and turbos....
I am certain that it will take my moron dealer a full month to replace my turbos, if that is ever needed in the future!

Ooops... sorry, I didn't mean to sound ungrateful or anything.... my "insider" is just a mechanic in the engine dept. and does not have full control over all issues going on at the dealer.... and as I said it did take a full three days for the install! Well, I guess being the guinea pig has its toll... (I was their first install)...

Now I am having second thoughts about installing the Injen intake, I like the car as it is... any suggestions?

There is a water temp gauge available from BMW. If you install the BMW Accessories Control Module, you will get an additional iDrive menu that displays the water temperature, battery voltage and amount of fuel in the tank (in liters/gallons).

If you don't have iDrive or Performance Steering Wheel, you can get a little $160 ScanGauge that displays water temp, air intake temp, voltage, timing, fault codes, and all kinds of trip and mpg stuff.

Point me to a link and I'll look into that - I don't have PSW or iDrive...and here in TX it would be very advantageous. Is it something that can be mounted or does it log, etc.?

That said...too bad BMW doesn't sell the additional cooling parts separately. Or do they? I'd seriously consider it, but don't want to have to change DME to 81 and then have to get a new Dinan flash, etc.

ScanGauge can be mounted. It displays some trip stuff, but not real logging.

Adding: there are much more expensive OBD2 multigauges available if you want more features. http://www.obdspy.com/tools/index.php

About the Performance cooling parts, the scoops are available for your car, and I guess the other parts will be available soon for 335is. But the Performance fan requires the performance tune and chip to operate. Someone said the second radiator also requires the tune to operate - I don't know.

First of all....congratulations!

The extra cooling capacity would sure give me some peace of mind.

Kind of interesting to compare temps......I run a tune and VK intercooler and my oil temps never get over 120 C and whenever I get the chance to datalog my coolant temps, they hover between 99-102 C.

But I am careful not to heatsoak the engine too much.

After 2-3 runs, I take it easy for at least 5-10 minutes.

One thing that I do notice after 3 runs or so, is that timing starts to pull back.....so I suspect that once the engine block accumulates enough heatsoak, it tends to impact the combustion chamber temps more immediately than the cooling system can extract the heat......hence the change in timing.

I would love to have that extra rad and stronger fan!

Do you plan on adding a tune on top, or is this enough power to satisfy you.
