Hi,

My maintaince is going to expire soon..so I think I will need to replace brake pads myself. How much does it cost?

I have 2007 328i coupe with sport package.

fairly pricey due to the fact that you will need to replace rotors as well. but shop around and you can prob do it with decent performance aftermarket parts for about 300.00-400.00 in parts for all 4 wheels (if memory serves)

I saw numbers like $1900 and $900 thrown around for the fronts at the dealership, so I don't know which it is. But our calipers are not even more than 1 piston so I don't see how it could be rocket science to DIY.

I'd change just the pads. I plan to change them myself next fall in rear and in front next year. I did it on my E46... very easy.

Dealer wants 795$ + txs including rotors. Pads will be about 180$.

I'll try a dust free set this time like Rotex Gold or if somebody has a suggestion.

I just yesterday replaced my front pads/rotors/sensor. Parts were $238 shipped.

Definitely do it yourself. Very simple minus a few stubborn bolts.

Dave do you know if similar pads (that comes with 2011 E92) now available across the board for other BMW as well?

Are you trying to see if there are Cool Carbon Pads for the 2011 e92? Because if that's your question, then yes there are.

So these so called "cool carbon" that virtually has no brake dust will work with OEM rotor (nothing special about 2011 E92 rotor I asumed, caus ethe pedal feel seems very good).
I think I am going to need to replace my 2008 535i pads soon so I need to check your web site.

Pardon my ignorance, but why must you replace rotors when your pads wear out? I'd replace just pads regularly on my previous cars (not bmw) or rotors get resurfaced when they needed it. Never replaced entire rotors just because the pads were done.

What am I missing?

No need to replace rotor if the old one are within spec with margin; but most of situation with Bimmer this is very rare.

My logic:
1) brake is important especially if you drive hard why risking so much for $200 -$250 (for 2 rotors).
2) You risking warp rotor from heat when it's thinner (I heard so many people having "shimmy" during braking beacuse of it), then you need to go back and replace the rotor to fix the "shimmy", twice the work. I know it only takes about 3 hour to do the front end brake replacement but I just hate doing the same work twice.

Dealer quoted me $650 for front brakes,rotors, sensor and labour. - Went to a local authorized center got them changed for $575.

OP, I just replaced front pads, no rotors. I switched to a low dust pad (Akebono). Cost me 65 plus 15 for a sensor. I now have less dust although pedal feel has less initial bite than OE. If you want OE, ypu should be able to find fronts for arounf 100, rears a little less.

If you've tripped your indicator light, then yes. If not, you MAY be able to reuse the sensor if you can remove it carefully. At about $20 each, why not just get a new one with your pads.

You can replace the rotors, pads, sensor and retainer clips on the front for around $300.00.

Brembo UV rotors - 165

Akebono pads - 60
