I'm originally from Michigan, moved to Wisconsin. I want to get my windows tinted but the %50 front and 35% back isn't dark enough for my liking. Is that strictly enforced in WI. Do people get away with 35% or 25% front and back?

All States are different. Most only allow 50% all around. Illinois just came out with a new law that says you can have 50% in the front and as dark as you want in the back, OR 20% all around. (most people do 20% all around).

I have lived in WI for 4 years and have never been bothered with a truck 5% on every window/20 on the windshield, and a car with 20% all around, incl. windwhield.

Long story short, all cities besides Madison are small towns...and small town WI cops couldn't care less.

Go for 20 all around!

-30-35% in the rear and up to 50% front
-If rear windows are tinted below 30%, front windows cannot have tint.
-Vehicles equipped with factory rear tint are allowed to have
up to 50% tint for front windows.

I grew up in Milwaukee having tint on most my cars (35% all around) and have never received any tickets for them.

Chicago on the other hand...

i have 20% all around, no hassles at all. Used to own an evo with 20% all around with open dump and no hassle at all. Good luck! This is in madison, and me driving around town as well..pulled over once, but it was for the dump being too loud at 2am. And no hassle with tint or anything.

ive also driven to chicago with both cars with description above on more than handful of trips and no hassle at all. As long as you don't drive like an idiot i think u should be fine.

I was told it was revised since the effective date 11/3/2009. I can't find the actual docket though.

I don't know much/anything about the Illinois system, but it should supercede PA 096-0815.

Disclaimer: I admit I haven't seen the actual documentation, I've just heard what I stated above from from a couple of 'reliable' sources...

That's the first I heard of it. I spoke with them (very reputable tinting place, among the forums at least) and the guy confirmed that 35% all around was the darkest I could legally get...

FWIW here is the law for WI

Front: 50% VLT
Back: 35% VLT
Rear: 35% VLT

No weird conditionals or anything like IL, they are hard limits. Like it's been mentioned however, it all depends on enforcement

Cops in Wisconsin RARELY ever care about tints as long as they're not like 5%. 20% all around should be fine. You should talk to Darkcyd_turbo (Noel)... he's friends with Steve at TNT tinting who does an excellent job if you're ever out in Madison.

I was thinking about heading down to TNT to get it done. There is only one shop in Wausau that does tint and i haven't heard anything about them really.

I came back up there to get my 135i tinted even after moving back to Chicago, I like their work... totally worth the drive.
