I am interested but don't think we could get some of the trim off with out damaging them from what I have read.

Yes that's true. I also read some post saying the bottom pieces will bend a little but I also read if you take your time and do it carefully (not rushing) you can minimize the damage maybe even no damage at all. If you are serious about trading we can always meet at a dealership and have them do it.

Hey there,

I am completely interested in doing this as long as you are driving E90 and your trim is not faded or damaged.. I was trying to do the same thing a while back. See my original post on this.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=363779

I am not too far from Long Beach myself. Maybe 25 miles North. Here is what I suggest. Locate someone who may be able to do this swap and get pricing. We need to make sure the trim will not get damaged. Mine is not damaged now so I would not want to swap and get damaged trim as I am sure you feel the same. I am sure there are members on here that can do this for a fair price and or maybe a body shop that specializes in BMW's. The BMW dealer will definatly rip us off. If we were to take it to them I would just suggest buying it new from www.getbmwparts.com and just trash what we have and do it ourselves.

Once you get a few more posts I can send you a PM with my contact information.

Talk with you soon,

EricO

Hey Erico,

My shadow line is in great condition so I’m confident that the both of us will be happy once the swap is made. I’m sure it will be fairly easy finding a body shop at a median point willing to remove both of our trim at a low cost. In fact, if you like you can have yours removed at a local shop and I can have mine removed at a local shop then we can just trade at a star bucks or something. I hear and read that re-applying the trim is not difficult at all (they just snap into place). So I figure we can do that ourselves for free.

I don’t know what time frame you’re looking at on getting this done, but I’m willing and able as soon as possible. Just let me know your time frame.

Also, I am open to any other suggestions you may have.

If we are going to do this I would rather we meet up together. A saturday would be best and it makes more sense to me if they are going to take the trim off to just put it right back on. I believe you need to take the front door panels off and the mirrors to get hte lower trim removed. I think you need one more post and then I can PM you my phone number. Maybe we can get together one evening this week and speak in person and you see my trim and I see yours. Tell me how this sounds.

Yes you're correct, it totally makes more sense for the person doing the swap to do the install as well. I mentioned installing the trim ourselves only if we went to seperate body shops to get them removed. But like you, I also rather have someone else do the complete job.

That's a great idea regarding meeting up sometime this week but this saturday isnt going to work for me in regards to actually getting the work done. I have already made a prior engagment out of town. I'm sure we will work something out once we meet up.

Thanks for your quick replies. We are getting closer and closer to having our rides looking the way want them to.

Are you free to meet up tonight?

Better to talk on the phone or in person.

Good talking with you tonight. If at any point you find time in the evening just call me as I am usually available after 8PM weekdays. Otherwise if the Cerritos meet next Thursday works then we will hit each other up there.

You did get my message that we will damage out trim if we attemt this right? I have heard it is easier to get the black off as it is plastic yet the chrome will bubble and bend.

I would be fine with half of that as long as we were sure none of the trim would get bent or damaged. From what everyone is saying they will get damaged though. You disagree???

Maybe we can get some people to chime in who have done E90's. Very interested but can't afford damaged pieces

I am completely interested in doing the trim swap. Like I said I just don't want bent pieces. If people can assure us that it can be done with no damage then I am 100% for it.

I emailed Tom @ EAS and he said it will bend and that their company will not even do it. It is 1 trim piece on each side that could and most likely will bend.

I am PM'ing the OP.

The guy from this forum I traded with heard the same rumors you heard. Also when contacting the dealer they would not warranty anything either...As being someone who comes froma background working on ferraris, maseratis, alfas, cars worth way more than ours...we seperate mechanics from body technicians.
