My Horror Story

Hi Guys

Just wanted to tell you guys about my experience with my 335I E92. Don't get me wrong I love the car well the way it looks at least. I always use to wonder when people would rave on about how great and powerful the N54 engine was, I could never quite agree.

Now I know why, some of you may have seen from my previous posts that the car went in about eight months ago for a number of things from, turbos, injectors, engine head cleaning etc.

Well the car has just had all six injectors replaced and been of the road for 8 days. I've now had a enough and decided to write a letter to BMW and see what they have to say, so I asked one of the guys to give me a full list of the history of warranty work on the car.

I was left gobsmacked the car has had the injectors replaced 3 times, there are so many parts that are flaged up as a permanent failure. These include
injectors, coil packs, air con unit, Oxygen Monitor Sensor, lamda probe, solenoid valve, two turbos, gearbox sleeve casing, gasket rings, all spark plugs, fuel tank venk valve.

No Fucking wonder I was never able to truly experience the car. So im going to put this all forward to BMW and see what they have to say.

Taking the piss really on a car that was 42k and done 33k miles.

Any advice would be more than welcome

Cheers

Taj

How old when you bought it? and how many miles?

Now these problems happen on many many 335i's but not recurringly.

Is it the white one at Battersea? Mine is there too just now for some warranty work (nothing related to yours though).

Mine has done 26k miles and so far has not had a single component replaced under warranty (until today) so it seems some cars have problems and some dont.

Dont forget the now legendary incompetance of some dealer mechanics.

Quite likely it only needed a coilpack, the rest are just cascade errors from them not being able to diagnose it!

Not in this case - his car really is sick, nothing to do with the dealer or technicians...

that sounds terrible, its not what you expect from any car let alone one as expensive/prestige as yours

did your mate not tell you he had probs with the car before you bought it off him? or did the trouble start only after you owned the car?

wow, this makes me worry as i am planning on buying one :/
Did you buy 2nd hand?

I have heard a few people who had some of these issues before but they were ragging the car to death and not cooling it down / warming it up etc etc which may have contributed to the faults. I'm not saying your doing the same!!!

Most problems i hear with the 335 is the hpfp going

So your 'mate' decided not to tell you about the horrendous trail of failures and warranty work that he'd had done?

As E92fan says, it sounds really sick

Are these issues ironed out of later 335i's, seems to be a bit of common issue on here?

OP- sorry to hear about your problems.

I had some problems which were only solved when they replaced all 6 Injectors, Coils ands Plugs. Done 7000 miles since the replacement and not missed a beat. The replacement injectors have a more up to date part number than the originals - this may help.

Ragging it does not lead the coil pack and injector failure.

the guys at battersea have really tried to help unlike those wankers at Berry Chiswick
my mate drives like a woman never ragged the car that's one reason
why I was confident in buying it, he now has a porsche carrea and trust me he still
drives it like a girl.

I've also checked the history when he had it, it only went in for minor
things.

I've just got a dud car, like Tony said it's sick!

Damn, sorry to hear about your problems!!....i can relate!...

I bought mine and it had 32k miles on it...and i had some of the issues you mentioned....

I got mine repaired at Coopers Cobham but Battersea was extremely helpful and provided lots of support! I was very lucky to have Big Tone and his contacts to help me out, otherwise I duno wat I cud hav done without them!

Hope u get it sorted! I think once all the parts have been replaced and correctly installed, it should run fine....I've done 15k circa so far and ...its all good! (touch wood)

sometimes this is why the smaller engines are much more reliable. sucks but sometimes its the way it goes. BMW should be able to help you out big time. customer service is impeccable

On the flip side, my car's done just over 50k miles and had nowt done but standard servicing (touch wood!). Seems that there are good'uns and bad'uns about, may be luck of the draw what you get.

I second that if it wasn't for Tony pointing me in the direction
of Battersea I would be going crazy.

Thanks mate

The car has had the injectors with the updated part numbers installed
it sounds more aggressive and seems to be going ok, fingers
crossed.

I'll see what the Glorious Bavarian Motor Works Company
have to say.

Thanks for all the support. I'll keep you guys posted

Cheers

E92Fan (Tony) should demand a retainer from BMW UK for services above an beyond the call of duty! He has kept many 335i owners sane over the years and helped me to new turbos, new wastegates, and eventually a new engine and a free year warranty extension !

I traded it in 2 months ago, and one lucky guy now has a car with free quaife and M3 rear bushes, and a new engine ...

Good luck with the fix....i wonder what the 4.4 litre twin turbo warranty claims are like so far.....the new M5 is going to be based on this engine.....

Got to add to the good vibes towards Battersea - my car has been with them all week, and they have gone above and beyond trying to sort out a bizarre knock I occasionally felt. Been kept up-to-date, costs all as I expected, so cant fault them.

Let us know what the outcome of your issues is taj.
