Planning to purchase Breyton wheels. Are they good quality? Any reviews?
Does anybody have experience with them? I want to get the Breyton Race GTP, GTSR-M and maybe GTS-R I was told they are made in Germany but tirerack says they are made in China. Also, my car is 2011 335xi and I will soon install a better/lower suspension. What is the largest diameter/widest wheels I can install on this car without any rubbin issue if I drop the car later? I will drop it about 1.5 each or less so it won't be slammed! Thanks in advance for all of your inputs. |

You can also check out the Avant Garde M341 Low pressure cast wheel that looks exactly like the Breyton GTS. You also do get the choice of Machined Silver, Matte Black, or Gun Metal finish. The setup that would work perfectly with your 335xi is the 19x8.5 ET35 with a 235/35/19 in the front and 19x9.5 ET33 with a 265/30/19 in the rear. I'll shoot you over a pm with more details! In the mean time here are some pictures for you to check out of the wheel in the different finishes

Thanks Alan
Well, The GTS-R wheel was last on my list since it looks like everybody is using similar wheel. I really like the look of the Breyton GTSR-M or Race GTP. Click on the links below to see the high res pictures of the wheels. Do you have a Avant Garde wheel that looks like the GTP or GTSR-M wheel. How about tires, do you sell tires too? I have a 2011 Alpine white 335xi. and I am not sure about the color. I am thinking either gun metal or silver but I think an alpine white color wheel will look the best pm a white E90. I am leaning more toward the GTP because it comes in 19" as well (unlike the 20" only GTSR-M). I think 19"s will look good and provide little more rubber, especially that I will go to ski with these wheels. (M+S tires of course) Last edited by vazbro; 07-29-2010 at 02:13 PM.. |

We have indeed had good experience and feedback with the Breyton line. I currently run a older model of Breytons on my 1995 M3. (not the ones in my avatar...which needs updating).

Well, after lot of research and consideration of different factors, I ordered the Breyton matte black Race GTP wheels in 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 with Continental Extreme contact DWS all season tires.

So you can run staggered wheel sizes on an xi? I thought you had to run "square" on the xi...or was I reading a bogus thread here?

Well, I have heard and read lot of posts and I am going with staggered setup because my car came with staggered setup. I trust BMW engineering. All I am doing is getting different set of staggered wheels with tire circumference difference of about .8% (0.8% difference between the front and rear tires 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 that I am planning to install on the car)
Now, I know that one of the members wrote a very comprehensive write up on how his issue went away when he switched to squared setup Check his post at mid to bottom of the following thread. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=362505 He said his car came with staggered setup from factory and everything was fine except for some rear wheel slippage issue low speeds but when he switched to a different tires (P Zero Nero) but the same size as OEM, his car developed major issues. I mean major problems. His car didn't feel good, felt like top heavy, his DSC would come on at high speed over minor road imperfections, near constant wheel slipage ate his rear brakes in just 2000 miles!!! These are major problems!! .... In my opinion, his car's XDrive/traction control/ABS or whatever other system that work together... was too sensitive or had problem because it doesn't make sense that you get all those major problems by just changing to a different tires of the same size as the OEM. The following are the facts and my reasoning in the parenthesis 1- His car came staggered with OEM setup (Trust BMW, they are the one who made these cars that we enjoy so much) 2- " He thoroughly enjoyed the stock tires/setup" except for some minor rear wheel slippage at parking lot speeds. (It happens often. I drive many different BMWs because of my job, plus, he said he drives his car hard which means he is heavy foot, put the pedal to the metal, and so on. So, he had some slippage when he take off until his car gain traction 3- Problem started when he changed the tires to different brand of the same size of as the OEM (Not all tires (different brands) are made of same compounds. Also, the same tire size in a different brand is not really the same tire size. Another word, 225/40/18 of Pirelli and 225/40/18 of Michelin are not exactly the same. But they are very close. So, they feel and act differently and a overly sensitive or faulty xDrive would catch the slight slippage instead of compensating for them and cause those really serious problems! 4- He switched to square setup and all the problem went away. (Or maybe it didn't. Maybe the issues are less profound so his system is not catching them anymore since all four wheels are the same exact brand, size, width....? I doubt it! Again, this is just my analytical opinion. I trust BMW engineering and I think they did know what they are doing when they send the Xi BMWs with staggered wheels. Especially that many owners report no issues s with staggered setup in their xi cars. Last edited by vazbro; 07-30-2010 at 02:08 AM.. |

My friend almost died because his breytons cracked in half at 65miles an hour, causing the car to roll.
PM Flux - he also has a post about it do a search. |

If you read enough thread over here ( and other forums) you will find threads about cracked rims for a lot of brands , Breyton, Linea Corse, Miro, Chikara to name a few (mostly from people running something else) I personally experience cracked rims 3 times (me twice , wife once) once with my Bretons GTS it was leaking air only saw it was craked after unmounting it. it cracked under the stress of numerous hits once with the wife VMR 715s (she hit a patch of black ice and hit the curb at 30-35) worst one hit a major pothole on an exit ramp doing about 50 mph cracked the OEM 158 wheel and bent the suspension (that one cost $1800 in repairs) By the way I had the BMW Road Hazard insurance and they paid for everything

i personally dumped my breytons after two failed completely... cracks around the barrel within two months of having them.
they're gravity cast in china and really light.... the old breytons were made in europe. weakest construction method and minimal material. on the same roads ive bent rims and bubbled tires, never completely cracked a rim, let alone have a rim where the material basically split around half the circumference of the wheel.

Breyton Race GTS Quality
I have 4 square on a 2007 E90, I hit a pothole on the Interstate at 70 mph
with a heavy load in the car (5 people and a trunk full of luggag) The sound of the hit was awesome but the wheel held fine - no air loss. I drove it home 400 miles and took it to my tire dealer he said the wheel was slightly bent and repairable. My opinion they are great wheels and look great too |
