Heat cycle and shave?

I am venturing into the r-compound world for the first time. I have been running Dunlop Direzzas for the last 2 years and am very comfortable at my limits with them.

I purchased some R888s. They are unshaven and not heat cycled either.

Here are my specs:
HPDEs only and wanting to go faster but just having fun
BMW 335 (approx. 3800 lbs w/me in it)
TC Kline DAs with camber plates
lowered and corner balanced
stock swaybars
stock power
StopTech brakes

Questions:

1. Should these be shaved and heat cycled before I use them?
2. If the answer to the above is yes, where to get this done in SF Bay Area or how yo do it.
3. Anyone with experience with tire pressures using R888s on a heavy car?

Thanks for your time.

Typical tires need a couple of heat cycles in them to reach optimum grip.

But for OP's purpose, where if you're not in competition for the last 1/100th of a second EVERY LAP, probably not necessary. Although I have heard from friends that Toyo RA-1 needs to be shaved because the tread-squirm would actually shorten tire life. Haven't heard the same regarding R888.

awesome information and thank you. I'll just mount them and slowly bring them up to temp at my next track day.

heat cycling yourself at the track won't help, you will need to let them sit for at least 24 hours. If you are not trying to get every millisecond off of your lap times but still want to heat cycle, you can heat cycle them on the street 1-2 days before you go to the track. You don't have to hit max g-forces to bring the tires up to a high enough temp. Just find a good road with some good corners that you can take at a decent speed. Remember to make sure you get some corners in both directions, or take the same path in reverse direction. Again, this is not as good as a true heat cycle, but it is better than trying to take it easy on your first run of the weekend.
