Dinan BBQ
Hey Everyone this weekend I attended the Dinan's BBQ in Mountain View, where Steve Dinan gave speech about their performance goals and direction with new BMW vehicles. After seeing the time, engineering and testing that goes to each product they make, it made me understand why their items cost that much. I have been on the market to purchase a oil cooler for my 335i and I was considering AR design's oil cooler but found out that it gets mounted in front of the radiator and as a by product it would generate heat to the radiator. I also looked at the VK motorwerks and I have not been able to get a hold of them. The Dinan Cooler fits very nicely and backed with a warranty.
After Steve's speech he left some time for Q&A and I was really impressed by his answers. Someone asked why dont you make a tune for the 328? Steve: "Because we tried and it didn't make any more real HP off the tune. We wont claim something untrue just for a sale". I asked: what would one of the best mod that I can make for my 335i? Steve: " This wont make me any money, but its honest. Do you have the factory RFT?" I responded yeah. Steve: " get rid of them and buy real tires and you handling will improve." He didn't try to pitch me any deal about their suspension products. Some time next month they will be doing another BBQ at their manufacturing plant in Morgan Hill, where they make all their performance products. I'll post up more info as I get it. My car is the last few pics. (space grey) let me know if you guys can see the pics. http://gallery.me.com/thiagoaguiar#100040l |

Just FYI, we have not had a single issue with that..... And mounting where we do provides a lot more airflow than a fender well mounted unit.

I wanted to chime in and say that I, too, was impressed by Steve Dinan. I attended an event they had announcing a specific NJ dealer partnering with Dinan. He talked about his products and had a Q&A session. He is definitely passionate about racing.
You can definitely understand the quality and pricing of their products when you hear about all their testing and R&D. And yes, you have to factor in a price for not violating a factory warranty. This isn't to discredit any third party vendor. But it seems a lot of people like to bash Dinan and call them overrated. I really do not think that is the case at all. They sell a performance product that is not just about looks (even though that IS important), that maintains everyday drive-abilty, and preserves the factory warranty. |

I still believe in their products and understand the market for them. There is value in what they sell. For so many people just buying a 335i the Dinan flash is a great value for what it gives you. My wife drives my car with no problems to and from work. My Acura NSX has a EMS from HKS and it isn't the most driveable car by comparison. It is faster though.
