FIRST XEDE equipped auto sedan, w/ solenoid-less install
HAPPY New Year to all! Let's celebrate it with a fresh XEDE install story.
Shiv informed me I was the FIRST automatic sedan to get the XEDE, as well as the 3rd THIRD car installed with the solenoid-less version. As a result, I felt obligated to share my experience with you guys. To be honest, I was a little embarrassed when Shiv told me I was the first auto sedan he installed...which was why it took me a few days to post. My previous cars were MT, but hey, we all go through lifestyle changes. However, as you can see from my early adoption, I'm still very much a part of the enthusiast crowd. The majority of 335is sold today are auto sedans. Hopefully my story can convince the silent majority on this excellent product. ---- Most of the detail has been covered in previous stories. Like others, I found Shiv to be extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. This patience greatly reassured me during the whole install process, as I know many are hesitant to 'break' into their new bimmer like I was. Shiv was extremely noob friendly. I mean, when you ask a person for the 3rd time how the 'solenoid-less' version works, most people would show some signs of annoyance. However, like I posted elswhere, Shiv not only didn't bat an eye in repeating the explanation, but went into great detail in answering my subsequent questions. Now on to the specifics: EDIT: Stage 0 91 Oct Picture 1: My XEDE results - 317 HP / 342 Torque! +51 HP, +68 T Note 1: Shiv mentioned the stock run of 266/274 may be slightly higher than normal, since my car had already been modified with the solenoid-less bleed prior to the dyno. However, the 266/274 reflected the stock map with everything zero'd out. Oh yeah, my map switch toggles to this. Note 2: My torque is lower than others, but as Shiv explained, it is consistent with results seen on Modacar's Dynojet. It's true that MTs have a bit higher torque, but the Step is pretty damn good. My E46 M3 buddy says the car is definitely faster than his! Not to sound like a parrot, but this car feels TOTALLY different now. When I used to start from 2nd gear (normal Drive), the car felt silky smooth. It took DS mode to REALLY feel the inherent power from the starting line. However, after the XEDE install, the car feels BOTH smooth AND powerful from 2nd! You feel like the power is at the tip of your foot, as opposed to being subdued before. Throttle response is awesome. There are other threads with great install pictures, but let me show you the solenoid-less version in greater detail. Picture 2: If you look at the stock 335i, there are 2 vacuum hoses routed in this section of the car. Picture 3: The reworked passive solenoid-less version looks like this. A couple of simple Ts, and you're done. Pretty simple huh? ----- Whoah, I'm surprised to see several hundred views on my youtube dyno video already, since I haven't even posted the link yet. You guys must've been searching for 'xede' or similar =) My 335i XEDE-equipped dyno: EDIT: Test drive link removed. Disclaimer: It wasn't a clean run, but I chose to post the one w/o interruptions (e.g. people walking by, talking, shiv getting out of the car, etc). It was also taken on a digital camera 15 ft away, so not the best sound rendition. Still I uploaded it for fun. Enjoy. orionredwing

Excellent results and nice review. Nothing wrong with Auto sedans. This is with 91 octane correct?

Looking good orion, those roads and the voice looks/sounds awfully familiar By the way, did he mention anything about the switch to you?

Congrats! I'm assuming that your car was tuned as a stage 0 with 91 octane?

Thanks for the response guys.
Yes, the car was Stage 0 with 91 Oct. And I did get the map switch as well. It's working fine. After making sure it worked, we had it tucked into the ECU box as the temporary solution, like the other guys. I like the map switch Shiv got me, but since it isn't the 'production' version, I won't attach an image to avoid confusion. orionredwing P.S. Just noticed I posted the link to the test drive instead of Shiv's dyno run. Oops! Updated the original post with the correct links.
