Just had my two nearest dealers price up a oil change, microfilter and new front pads. Dealer 1 wants £522, Dealer 2 wants £397. Bizarre. Dealer 2 have ballsed plenty up for me in the past, and swore I wouldnt go back, but now I probably will.

Fuchs Titan ProS oil is £70 roughly, oil filter £10, microfilter £30, EBC Red stuff upgraded front brake pads £75 (from eBay)

£200 parts (maximum)

Maximum one and a half hours labour - local independent maybe £120 ??

And if its a BMW run aftermarket scheme that is tied to a franchised dealer?

Doesn't matter anymore. If genuine BMW parts are used, but installed outside the dealer network, warranty remains intact. EU law. If non-genuine parts are used, warranty is not applicable to that specific part.

Only the original 3 year warranty allows you to go outside the BMW network
And then you have to prove approved parts were used -receipts for the oil etc.

For the extended 3 years + warranty you have to use the BMW network for servicing. This is a purchase where there is choice therefore you have to read the t & c's

And also if you go outside BMW they'll use any excuse to get out of warranty claim, eg mechanics did bad job even if parts are genuine. Also, no chance of a contribution in 4th year. Not worth it, stick to BMW stealers just shop around.

My opinion is that if you plan to sell you car in the coming year or so, service it at BMW as you can then extend the warranty with BMW Warranty insurance and many future buyers will be more at ease with a BMW service history rather than indy. However if you plan to hang on longer than that then would I go the independent route as it's much cheaper and would most likely do a better job than BMW would anyway lol.

The £522 price is outrageous.

I would have though the following:

Oil Service - £ 140
Microfilter - £ 40
New pads - £ 130
Service check - £ 20

Total - £ 330

This is my recollection of dealer prices - not indy
