Many of us were impressed by this year's M3 GT2 Art Car by Jeff Koons, but how many of us know the history behind BMW's Art Car concept, including the impetus for the projects, first iteration, and subsequent history? BMW has released this video to school us.

There have been many well-known artists who accepted the commission to produce a BMW art car. Everyone knows Alexander Calder, David Hockney, and Andy Warhol, but not that many know that each of them created a BMW art car. There were others - my favorites are the cars by Frank Stella, and Roy Lichtenstein.
