Brake pad senors won't reset

I've done a search, but not got the answers i need, so he i am, asking a question :

Replaced the rear pads, inc sensor, then tried to reset the computer - noticed that it's saying that the fronts need replacing also, but they do not, they weren't touched at all

Tried resetting both the front and the rear service milages, but it won't let me !

What goes on please ??

I also have the same problem, Car says the rear pads need done! fitted new pads and sensor today and it wont reset.

Could i be right in saying if you go over the service warnings to long that you need to plug the car in to clear?

Im gona plug the car in on saturday and hope it sorts this out.

Can you post up the reset method you are using? Sounds like you could just be doing it wrong... No offence of course. But worth checking

press ignition twice
hold reset button until yellow triangle appears
the scroll through with the selector on the indicator stalk
get the brake pads picture up - the press and hold thew BC button
reset appears - along with the clock timer thing

this method isn't working

tried the Snap-on scan tool - that works on the car, just gets a "failed" message on the brake pad reset

I had the same problem.

You've said you've replaced the sensor so that's usually the pain in the butt.

This worked for me, I did the reset on both front and rear using the method you've tried, turned off and on again. It had failed.

Went for a drive of a few miles, switched off and on and tried the reset again, bang it worked.

Bizarre, but give it a go!

Two options here:

1. Buy a new sensor for the front and plug it in to reset it. Then plug the old one back in again.

2. Some one on here mentioned they had soldered the sensor and been able to reset it after this without buying a new sensor. Do a search on this.

I think you can only reset it yourself once the system tells you it's due for service. The system will tell you when the sensor gets damaged through pad wear, meaning replace sensor and pads.

Other than that if you can not reset the brakes service light it's very likely a fault with the sensors if you know how to reset the on board computer. If it's coming on as the front pads need changing, but, the fronts are fine then you need to replace the front sensor also.

Replaced rear sensor

resurrecting an old post:

I had an issue were I couldn't reset the front or rear brakes. I had extra sensors for the front, but replacing them, leaving it unplugged, nothing seemed to work to reset. I ordered a new rear sensor. As soon as it was installed, I was able to reset the rear, which then reset the rear automatically.

Did you replace the sensors?

Were the sensors genuine BMW?

These cars somehow know when you are trying to trick them with non-OEM sensors and play silly buggers with you!
