New to ATL
hi, my names Adi, pronounced similar to Audi, but don't worry, I drive a bimmer.
I'm originally from Kingsport, Tennessee. I'm new to Atlanta and relatively new to e90post. I'm starting at Georgia Tech this fall. I drive a 2008 monaco blue e90 335i. Yes, my Dad bought it for me, but we cut a deal. He gives me a 30k car, and I take a full scholarship to Georgia Tech, rather than he pays 200k for me to go to Johns Hopkins. So, my questions are 1. any other e90 owners at Tech on this forum? 2. any local meets in Atlanta? |

Hey man, I just graduated with a BS in NRE from Tech. I'm doing my MS in MP now. I'll see you around on campus! Let me know if you need any advice or books or anything.

welcome! I live very close to GT and go to law school in Atlanta. We are trying to get more meets organized. There are some great local e9x owners on the forum. I am sure there will be something coming up soon

Adi,
My name is Chris and I am currently entering my third year at Georgia Tech as a biochem major. I drive a black '06 e90 325i and have only recently started to make mods to my car. Funny how you came to own your car, I cut almost the same exact deal with my dad. He pay nothing for school and buy me a car that I want or pay 50k a year for me to go to berkeley and I get no car. Let me know if you have any questions about tech or anything, I currently live off campus in an apartment but am pretty close by. |

Thanks for the intros, and by the way, I'm a BME premed major.
NiVeDh, unfortunately I ordered all my books yesterday, which were ridiculously expensive. But next semester, I'll hit you up for books. ATL e92, I can't wait to meet other owners in the area. Unfortunately, my Dad won't me take my car first year, so I may need a ride to go to meets. Chris, I'll look out for your 325i. You're lucky you can mod now; I still have 4 years left on my warranty, so I will only be doing cosmetic mods with my excess scholarship checks. turb0, I'll be looking out for you. |

Also, is it safe to have a bimmer on campus? Do people mess with it? and is it worth investing in wheel locks and security system?

It's pretty safe on-campus, I would say. I usually park in W02, next to the student center, which is gated. The only place where I wouldn't park my car for an extended period of time, especially at night, would be by North Ave or Centennial. I used to live at M-Street Apartments on Marietta St. last year and it was pretty unsafe. Although it was gated, the gate was broken or left open the majority of the time. Luckily, nothing happened to me but three out of the eight apartments on my floor got robbed, I saw a car left on bricks, and I heard about one car break-in. I installed the OEM alarm in my car which kind of made me feel better and I have the OEM wheel locks as well which give me a perhaps false sense of security. If someone really wants to break into your car or steal your wheels, they'll do it. That's what insurance is for, I guess. I moved to 935M which is across the street this year which is fully gated and seems much more secure. I can sleep better at night now as opposed to last year when I'd sometimes get up in the middle of the night to check on my car. |

Peeking in here as I am taking a trip down to Atl for homecoming weekend ... I am a GT alum from 04
M-Street is not a good place to live I actually know the development team of the property and people that have lived there When I was at Tech I was lucky enough to have secured a spot in Klaus which was awesome because I parked with some Prof's Porsches in the bottom of the deck If Peter's parking deck over by ATO is still there ... stay clear especially of the bottom level West campus tends to be a little safer for parking ... except home park Would love to try and meet up with some of you guys when I am down there ... I will be hitting up Taco Mac Metropolis on the 7th around 10pm when I get in

Driven by Tech numerous times. Hired a couple of engineers from there as well. Have also been to Kingsport, TN many times as well. In fact, may be landing a decent project at AGC Glass in Kingsport.
Anyway, welcome... |

Thanks for all the advice and introductions. Unfortunately no car at this year, but I'm definitely bringing it next year.
scalbert, you may see my dad driving my car around in Kingsport. I'm pretty sure it's the only monaco blue 335i there. |
