brake pads question

speedstar informed me that my rears pads are at 40% and my fronts are at 75%. i'm at 64k kms and for the fronts to be at 75% is unreal.

i was told to change my pads right away because there is a probability i might ruin the rear sensors as i consume more of the rear pads. i want to change my pads at speedstar, but my brake sensors always fuck up on this car (i've taken it 4 times in the last 2 yrs to the dealer to fix the sensor issue), and i will need to take it to the dealer anyways.

1. does anyone know at what point i should be changing pads....?

2. i researched on this forum regarding rotors and it seems that you change them:
a. every second brake pad intervals
b. you get vibrations while braking

can anyone confirm 1,2?

great time to get BBK....lol!!!

1. depends how much do you drive and how you brake...40% might be still go for another few months if you don't always brake hard. Also your brake sensor probably still under warranty, so make sure you save the Speedstar receipt, so you can show to dealer that you changed the pad, so that they can reset your brake count and if sensors need to be change, then they change under warranty.

2.
a. I would go with the thickness left on the rotor. I don't know the correct thickness off hand, but if the rotors less then certain thickness, then you should consider change your rotor.
b. You get vibration doesn't not mean you need to change the rotor, maybe only need to machine the surface. You will get vibration when your rotos are warpped which in that case you will need to change the rotors.

Soni,

Speedstar told me that if i ran the pads past a certain point, like 20/30% than i would do damage to the sensor, at which point bmw will not warranty the sensors. is that correct?

the brake pads are like $85 or so.. and the sensors are $20-ish. the savings sounds marginal?
