Tire wear question.
So a buddy of mine is the manager at the local America's (Discount) Tire Company.
He tells me these BMW's wear the inside edge of the tires really fast. He said he gets these BMW (I'm guessing he means the E90 330i) in all the time with only 12-18K miles on them and the inside of the tires are worn out, needing new tires. He said BMW sets the camber that way. I don't think there are many, if any 335i owners who have that many miles on them yet (unless they drive like 40K miles a year) so wondering if you 06 330i owners have experienced this? Thanks |

nope, my 330 sprt tires are still on my car and i am approaching 31K. My tires wear more in the middle. Maybe I inflate them at recommended psi when cold and when tires are hot, it is over inflated.

Historically, the camber on the rears on German cars, BMWs included, are set with the tire slouched -in, which helps with stability at higher speeds encountered on Autobahn. The actual camber settings have been progressively toned down over time as suspension improvements compensated for the camber settings. I have notice only a slight camber bias in the e90s, and it is in fact noticeable more under acceleration. I would venture to guess that today, this would not affect the tire wear.

Don't forget Alignment could affect tire wear and could be the result of as simple as hitting a curve or dropping into a pot hole. Uneven wear could also be attributed to the toe in or out at excessive amounts. Not to forget the small counter weights applied to the rims falling off could affect adverse tire wear as well.
It seems almost anything could result in premature tire wear, but its definately worth knowing what could be the possible signs & symptoms of what brings upon these unwanting outcomes. Each RFT costing $300+ has me thinking what I could do best to keep my RFTs on active duty as long as possible.

95% of drivers are idiots that NEVER check thier pressure.
My PS2s had 8K on them when I sold the ZHP and they looked brand new all across the tread. Check your pressures every weekend and your tires will wear wonderfully. Even once a month will usually do. And, as another poster said, the camber is more neutral on the e90's than even on the e46s, as I talked about this alot with Mike at Technic when doing my suspension on the ZHP. kj |
