The end of my 320si - RIP
Had to make a call on the repair of my car today.
Due to time to rebuild the engine on my car (2nd engine). I've decided to terminate the lease. So i'm now in a Skoda Octavia TDI until my F10 arrives. My car is now destined to be scrapped due to the cost and time for repair being too uneconomical. I understand it will be picked up in a few days and head to the nearest auction house for my lease company (I think its Westbury) If anyone comes across a Le Mans 320si Reg BU56*** registered on 6th September 2006. So if you are the new owner - Please get in touch via PM as I am curious to know who will be buying it as a non runner or for scrap at auction and of course the all important question what did you pay for it. RIP 320si

My order was placed June and it arrives at stealer Oct 25th.
But my lease company and employer have some priority to jump the queue. Some colleagues placed order two weeks before me and they get theirs 1st week September.

Yeah - It would have made a good cheap track day car. If I had the spare cash I would have gone to auction to pick it up perhaps. I can't see it getting more than £5k (four year old and 96k miles)

Out of sheer curiosity and detective work. Found out my car is going for auction at BCA Walsall 26/08/10 as a non runner. Some of the engine is in the boot!!
So if anyone wants some bits from a 320si this might be a good buy! I'm tempted just to go to the auction to see what it goes for.

It's just bizzare that a 56 plate BMW can be scrapped because of a mechanical problem.
Especially when it's an engine failure on a model which was praised for it's 'hand built' engine. |

Is the 320si gearbox the same as a 320i?
The problem is I suppose, with all the coding required to change parts - the computers in the car will all be set up thinking it is the si engine and just one sensor different will be chucking up fault codes that could end up uncurable? What happened to the days when you bolted in an engine, connected the coil/starter/alternator up, sorted fuel and water, and drove the thing. Always remember my mate sticking engines into all sorts of cars, his 2.0 litre pinto Vauxhall Chevette was one of my faves! |

Glad I didn't buy a 320si - I know this is a unique case but in the back of my mind I always wondered about what would happen if something went very wrong with the "hand-built" engine.
Sorry to see it looking forlorn and agree with NFS - it's crazy. Onwards and upwards to your new motor though! |

- NFS
Exactly what I thought too. But it was going to cost £4k+ to fix engine. I got the loan lease paperwork for car today. It turns out I still owe £10k on loan (funny money loan agreement). So if they got £3k for car, my company has lost £7k.... - E902717 I'm tempted to see what it goes for on auction day. If you see it about let me know! - jjbirch Easier to get a 320d and do that. After all its just another E90 M Sport shell with other tweaks. - M3-FAST Its the same box as a 320i. Gears were good on it had no probs. The 320si uses unique brakes front and back, unique full exhaust & cat. And obviously unique engine everything else was standard M Sport stock. - ComputerKnowHow I don't regret getting it, its given me four fun years of driving. The maintenance costs were horrendous - who cared as I wasn't paying. Fuel economy was 27mpg combined. The handling was great. The saddest part of seeing it is the picture showing the engine in the boot. Kind of says the garage just gave up and couldn't be bother to strap it back. But I know that isn't the case as the lease company just told to drop engine in the boot. - RagingKileak You might say that but I had look on the BCA site and there is a few Honda's similar age with engine kaput in boot non runners.

Especially when so many new F20C motors are failing. I know of a couple who are on the second/third engines in a 2009 car. Dont believe the Honda hype... they are having big issues with this S2000 engine still. S. |

I've heard that Honda just buy back any troublesome engine failure cars.
They then just destroy them. Maybe BMW should have done a buy back with the 320si's. Bit like the Citroen Birotor buy backs. Old man has new Jazz and was bought because I think Honda do make well built cars (some boring though). Shame the Integra Type R isn't officially sold in the UK.

Yeah, was stated a very long time ago, "never been a warranty claim on a vtec engine"
That was the line back in 2004/5 when i was a honda "car park" nut. The new engines are horse pish tbh.....Honda are VERY off their game and its a shame. They make astonishing engines when they put their mind to it. All the D16/B16/B18's were awesome... All these F/K series donkeys are too complicated for their own good Jj |
