BT scan -Slooowwww
Just got my BT cable and the software is extremely slow. the "Short Test" will take about 20-30mins to run.
I am unable to get anything when trying to log data I am running a clean install of XP SP3 on a Mac 2.4GHz w/ 8GB mem on VMware. I know other people are running it on there Mac's with no prob's. Any thoughts? |

Sometimes mine takes like 15 minutes. In a friend's car, it takes 3 minutes. Weird.

Strange... Takes no more than 4-5 mins on an older laptop of mine running WinXP.
I notice the scan hesitates on features I don't actually have on the car. |

^ yeah some modules that we don't have, it scans it anyways. Mine takes around 4-5 mins for short tests, although i do find it freezing more than i'd like to at times. But i blame it on my slow netbook. 1.6ghz intel atom booo.

need to make sure the ignition is on. if you do it while the car is off it will just time out for everything.

Solution to your problem, make sure ECU goes to sleep, makes a huge difference with BT scan speed

Mine takes 3-5 mins. If you have faults it will take longer. I usually check the engine and fuel module on its down to see if i have any codes. Once that part is taken care of i run the full scan and that usually comes up clean and only takes 3-5mins if that.

I did notice that I had .net framework 4 installed. I removed it and installed ver 2 with the same problem. I then reinstall XP pro, installed the 3 files required (driver, BT software, and .net framework) but still having the same problem. When I start the software up the first thing it asks is what kind of car do it have. Once I hit e90 the software will say "not responding", hang for about 3 mins then come up with my engine type. If I select that again it will hang for about 3mins and keep doing this. Sometimes it will hang longer then others, maybe around 10min would be the longest hang. Again, running MacBook 2.4GHz, 8GB mem, 50GB free space. Running it via VMware 3.1.1 (allocated 6GB of mem to VM), all other windows software runs just fine (IE, autocad, itunes, blah blah blah) any more thoughts out there? Thanks Last edited by dinosaur12; 08-19-2010 at 12:49 PM.. |

You are emulating Windows under OS X, sharing devices like USB, etc. I have no problem with BootCamp running Windows 7 64-Bit in native mode. However, to avoid unneccessary efforts try with the MBP plugged to a power-source instead of using the battery. Energy saving settings can cause weird effects.

Have you tried contacting BavTech support to see if they have any suggestions what might need to be tweak in MAC O.S & VM session that might help with performance ?

You can't, the only time I'm assuming you'll be running engine is when you're driving the car and doing Data logging....

I guess I will download a trial of parallels and see how that goes. I dont have the space right now to partition the drive. Might have an external that I can use and boot from that. |

Side note: Thank you, Belarus, for posting my vid. I'm glad people are finding it useful (I originally created it for the JBD beta folks who were having problems figuring out the best way to connect their BT, but the process should work for anyone). I'll probably redo it at some point to make some points more clear (I don't remember if I recorded it with my iPhone 4 or not). Belarus is right. You can't put the ECU to sleep if the car is on in any way, including the ignition being on. It should also be noted that the video centers around people with Start/Stop Engine ignitions, vs. turn-key ones.

No need to thank me, Thank you for creating it ! At least now I know who's the "father" of this VID so I can appropriately give the credit BTW you should post it in DYI if you haven't. I found it made a HUGE difference from my personal experience with scanning speed by making sure letting ECU go to sleep by watching your video !
