Advice on E90 320D

hi guys 'n' gals, long time reader, first time poster...

OK, so my E90 2005 320i has so far cost me $4500 in problems starting this year with a fuel pump replacement (Water in the petrol, they said), then a month later, smoke start wafting up from under the bonnet, BAM!! $2668 for a new rocker cover, gaskets and some motor sensor.
Sooo time to trade in for a car that 's under warranty...

MONTHS of searching, test driving everything including the new Kizashi (yuck!), Audi A3, Lexus IS250 (Drives like my wife's Aurion, with less power! what IS the deal with Lexus???), Volkswagen Passat etc, I have decided teh only car to replace my Beemer with, is another Beemer.

Having driven an $80k 320d Coupe whilst car was in service, I decided I might as well get a Sedan 320D.
Looked for a while, but BMW only seem to have $60k Coupe's for sale, a red sedan showed up at Ballarat BMW, but no sunroof, no leather, and that awful aluminium trim for $40k...pass.
Finally saw one for sale at a non-BMW dealer, 2007 leather sunroof even Sat/Nav, 78,000 km, all for $40k
Optimistically, I rang the dealer, and asked if the car is still under BMW warranty...and it IS! Even more, it's been fully serviced at BMW Melbourne for all services...SCORE!
I rang my local BMW dealer here in Bundoora, and asked them to confirm the dealer's story (NEVER take a 2nd hand car dealer's word as truth!), seems I can even use BMW finance to get a more affordable loan with Balloon payment (Allows lower repayments, and I can top up with no penalty).

Now, they can extend the BMW warranty, using a special Allianz-backed extension to new car warranty, but reading this and other forums, I get the feeling you feel it's a waste of money.

So, (finally) what do you guys think? warranty or don't bother?

Well I suppose if the reason you are trading your 320i is because it is out of warranty, then yes, get the warranty!!

I heard there is a powered up 3.5 litre version of the Lexus, called IS350 due out in a month or two. If reliability and maintenance cost is a concern, thats what I'd go for.
