Time from Production to Delivery, PCD?
Once you get a production date, what is the best estimate for an East Coast delivery date? I know weather can be a factor on the trip over but I am looking for an estimate. I have also heard that a Performance Center Delivery can add a week or so to the time. Can someone confirm this? Does the car go from the VPC straight to Spartanburg? Do they sell accessories at the factory in SC?
I hope to get an early March production date. Is a mid April delivery out of the question?

beemah, you got that right. I had fun tracking both MINI Coopers that I ordered but have never done a PCD before. Looking forward to a nice drive home this spring in the vert through the mountains of NC and Tennessee. Might even have to try the Dragon.

Yeah, PCD adds a week or two to your wait, but it's well worth it. My car had a production date of ~Sep 3rd and was delivered at the Performance Center on October 23rd. The car takes a train to the center, so my car had 1.3 miles upon delivery there.
I'm not sure if they sell accessories. Here's a link to my experience: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34488

Once your car hits 150 status, it'll take an estimated 5 working days to works itself down the process/line. Throw in 2-3 days to Bremerhaven and then the tricky part, awaiting transportation. I've seen time spent anywhere from 2-3 days to 2-3 weeks. You really need a lot of luck here. The voyage across would take 16-17 days to SC. From then on, allow another 2 weeks (min) for your PCD date.
The 2 weeks minimum is to allow ample time to set up your PCD appointment and also for your dealership to forward all necessary documents (including tags/registration etc) to the PC. All paperwork/finances must be completed 2 weeks prior to PCD date. In my case, my car hit 150 Status on Feb 2, 2006, arrived at Bremerhaven on Feb 10, loaded on the boat on Feb 13 and landed in SC on Mar 1. For the most parts the voyage was on schedule. There was a slight delay in Southampton and the boat went through some rough weather at sea. This is for a Regensburg built car which applies to you as, I believe, all E92s and E93s are built there. FYi the VPC is across the street from the Performance Center. Once at the docks the car is transported via rail (Norfolk South) to Greer, SC. You can have OEM accessories installed at the VPC. Check with your SA. Some say the install rates are more reasonable, others say the quality of work is better. Most say the quality of PDI is the best. Good Luck!

KL2DC, thanks for the info. Do you know if the Perf Center could install something like the Euro fog light switch if I order one and take it with me? I am really looking forward to the trip as I have relatives in Greenville and plan to turn the trip into a mini vacation as it will probably be May, a great time for top down driving in the Smokies. Also looking forward to driving the "Dragon" that I have heard so much about. Thanks again.

rmorin49: I doubt the PC will indulge your request to install the euro fog light switch for you. First of all, it comes under the category of parts not extra cost accessories as found in their brochure, second of all, the euro fog light switch was never blessed by BMW NA.

I'm doing PCD. I hate it's gonna add time to my wait, but I think next to an ED it's the best way to pick up your new wheels. Plus this is my first BMW, so it just sounds like a cool thing to do. I don't remember hearing any bad reviews about it.... except the extra wait time.
My car should be done in a few days, so hopefully I can pick up in mid-late Feb. Last edited by SpiralOut; 01-11-2007 at 09:17 PM.. |

You will definitely enjoy it. If you have time, go to Asheville, NC and see The Biltmore House. If the weather is nice, take a drive due north from Greenville and head up through the mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a nice drive, speed limit is only 45 mph, but not a bad way to break in your new car.

I'm also doing PCD. Actually, I'm awaiting a call from my CA to tell me what dates are available. My 335 Coupe was finished on 1/9 and (as of two minutes ago via the 800# ) "is being transported to the port of exit". Does this literally mean "headed for the boat"? If I'm a doing PCD, wouldn't it be on a different ship then the one coming to Jersey for a MD dealership? Shouldn't that be decided already? Has my CA dropped the ball? These are a few of the many thing that I don't know!
The CA tells me that if I skip the PCD I could see the car at the dealership probably the 1st week of Feb. I should hear from him tomorrow regarding the PC scheduling. I really want PCD, but if it adds more than a couple weeks to my delivery time, I'm gonna be bummed. Hey rmorin49, you're thinkin' like me regarding the Blue Ridge Parkway and The Dragon. So many roads, so little time. |

if your car is at the port of exit, give it 5 business days and 1 weekend to get on a ship. mine finished production on the 28th dec, but got on a ship on 8th jan. it was a long long time before the vin showed up. but once it did, like aregon says. there is always hope!!!!
PCD, let me know how much more time it adds. |

From my CA, I think they can give you a PCD delivery date shortly after your car gets on the boat. I think if you don't do PCD it's about 20 days (+ or - a few days) until it gets to your dealer so see what your PCD delivery date is and see if the wait is worth it to you. I hear it's about 1 to 2 weeks longer for a PCD.
Also I think all the cars get on the same boats... I think the Charleston port stop is the next stop after the NYC stop... or maybe it's the other way. ? Last edited by SpiralOut; 01-11-2007 at 10:41 PM.. |

I am doing PCD in 1 WEEK! For my 335i coupe. As of next Friday it will be exactly 86 days from order to delivery. Order placed 10/25, week 49 production began 12/5, car left for port 12/14, crossed the Atlantic and made port in Charleston on 12/27, got through the US prep queue on 1/4 and was in delivery stock at the PC on 1/9. Now she's just waiting for me. I cannot wait. Pix and write-up will probably be up by noon next Saturday. After some much needed rest.
Damned this next 7 days can't go be fast enough. This is my first BMW too, frankly, I HAD to do PCD. What a way to join the family.
