What's all this waste gate rattle stuff about?

When I start my car, I hear some waste gate rattle. What is it and do I have to worry about it? I believe it only happens when the car is cold.. First start in the morning.. If it needs to be repaired, can I wait until my next service visit and tell BMW about it then? Or is this something that needs immediate attention?

how do we know if we get new turbos? is there a part# or name?

man i have been having this issue and they keep giving me the runaround. I think i'm having a couple of seperate issues though

Number 1) On a cold start or while the car first starts to Idle i hear a metallic rattling sound that sounds like a bug or something. I was thinking this is exhaust rattle but I don't know..

Number 2) If I'm driving on a narrow street or in a garage with the windows down I can hear a clicking/ticking sound when I push/let off the gas.

have been to BMW a few times for this. The first time the replaced the actuators. After this the clicking was even more frequent!! Brought it back to them twice and they didn't do jack!

Not sure what to do now. According to the SA (most likely BS) - All sounds they heard are normal and my turbos are working fine.

I'm at 47k and want to get this fixed ( if needed ) before my warranty expires. Any ideas?

Dont take the dealership's bullshit. Be persistent, call BMW NA if you really want to speed things up, read up on the service bulletins. I had the actuators replaced 3 times in 2 years and it was still rattling, updated software still rattling, then the "no faults found in the dme", or the rattling is "normal" run around. Finally they replaced my turbos, but I dont think they vaccuum adjusted the wastegates because they're rattling even worse now. I'm sick of it
