Wheel crack - MOT?
Is it normal for wheel cracks to be picked up on MOT tests? Mine's just failed on one.

If its the stealers then its because your cars now 3 years old and out of warranty sir
They don't check before as they don't want to replace them F.O.C Last edited by Bomber; 08-26-2010 at 07:39 AM.. |

My father in law runs (ran) a local MOT garage, although there are basic things they have to check on all cars, they also get VOSA bulletins about what to look out for or any current issues on some makes.
They must have a bulletin about BMW wheels! |

Thing is - it must be really hairline. Now I understand that's not a good thing (I'm an engineer).
It's never lost any pressure either. I asked how much for a replacement from BMW - £500. Looked on ebay and picked up a full set of wheels incl 6mm tread Bridgestones for £400 - result!

May split them from the RFT tyres and sell the tyres on. Sell the 3 remaining wheels on ebay?? Scrap the cracked one.

I run an MOT testing station, and when you log a car onto the system, it gives you pointers on certain models!

It certainly helps, and it also gives hints on how to test certain 'odd' vehicles!

I was in Wheel Works Crawley, we had to wait 4 hrs for them to finish a set of wheels and was aloud to wander around watching what goes on amazing work ! Watched them straighten a fucked rim looked well easy with the right tools £45. I asked about cracked wheels no problem done loads in fact there was a 22" overfinch range rover rim there with the dreaded crack. He said they have a old boy that welds them and fettles them down to like new ,I said are they safe and ok he said in this day and age unless i was completley happy he wouldnt dare let anything go out dodgy. What would your opinion be on welded rims in for a MOT ? regards Scooba Oli who do you use for wheel repairs /refurbishing ? do you know any one with some Pescaras from a ED30 either damaged or mint,I have tried all the obvious places |
