Can someone explain this, 18x8.5 and 18x8 wheels

Hi everyone.. New at this, I just want to know what does this mean.

the rear on e90 has 18x8.5 wheel/tires
the front has 18x8.0 wheel/tires.

Does that mean I can't switch the FRONT wheel/tire with the REAR? What does that 0.5 difference mean?

.5 just means the rear rims are wider than the fronts by half an inch.
Most people who have wider rear rims run wider tires so that means you can not rotate them.

Is it okay to put 18" dia 8" width wheels in both front and rear and still go with 225/40 and 255/35?

Yes, as long as the wheels can handle the 255 size (I think they would). The larger diametre wheels in the back are there to support wider wheels than the regular size. The regular BMW sports package set up for the e9* is 255 in the back on 8.5 inch width, so just make sure that the 255 will fit 8 inchers with your tire specialist.
